Professor Petros Lorrimor

Professor Petros Lorrimor lived in the town of Ravengro, in the Canterwall county of the nation of Ustalav, with his young daughter, Kendra Lorrimor. They lived in a modest home to the south of the town.   Lorrimor was a professor at the University of Lepidstadt and, as a scholar, Petros had used his knowledge and research to learn about the forces of evil to better combat them. He had particularly studied the Whispering Way as a local Ustalavic force for evil.

Murder

Professor Lorrimor was murdered by agents of the Whispering Way, led by the necromancer Auren Vrood, when he caught them in the act of stealing the soul of Warden Hawkran from the ruins of Harrowstone Prison. Lorrimor had been researching the occult organization for some time and had known they were up to no good in his town. Vrood made sure Lorrimor looked like he had suffered an accidental death.   Lorrimor briefly returned from beyond to assist the Fellowship in defeating the Spawn of Yog-Sothoth in Carrion Hill.

The Lady

Professor Lorrimor is brought to consciousness by the pain of tiny thorns piercing his back and finds himself laying upon a bed of hundreds of black roses. Impulsively, to relieve himself of the pain, he sits upright and discovers that he and the rose bed lay upon a large square altar of cold, gray stone in the middle of a massive round room. Silvery moon light pours in from arched windows cut at intervals into the walls of the room. Through the window directly in front of him, Lorrimor sees a bloated, full moon hanging in the sky, casting it’s radiance across an otherwise pitch black night. Far off in the distance, illuminated by the moon, a glittering river meanders through a barren landscape.   Lorrimor turns his neck to look behind him and take further inventory of his surroundings. At the farthest end of the room, atop a steep flight of stone stairs sits a massive throne. Casually resting upon the throne sits an ashen-skinned woman with white eyes. A black, robe-like dress hangs about her thin frame and white hair flows over her shoulders, seeming to sparkle by the moonlight illuminating the room. A large hourglass filled with red sand sits ominously upon the armrest of the throne and the woman’s emotionless white eyes stare unfaltering into the bottom orb of the timepiece.   Suddenly, from all of the open windows, a stream of tiny birds begins to pour into the circular chamber. Hundreds, then thousands of them, spinning in a maelstrom of synchronized flight around the edges of the room. Almost in an instant the chaotic cacophony of chirping birds and the spinning of their flight began to weigh upon Lorrimor’s mind. Unable to focus his eyes upon the dizzying avian pattern, the professor closed his eyes tightly to avoid feeling sick. The sound of chirping multiplies in volume to the point that the professor can no longer bear the weight of the sound. Just as his mind is about to snap, the professor screams in anguish. . . and in that instant the sound was gone leaving only the last remnants of the professor’s scream echoing off the bleak stone of the room.   When the professor opens his eyes, the altar of black roses that he was once laying upon is now gone and he stands in the middle of the same circular room. Across from him where the birds had once flown at the edge of the room, coming up from the floor stand eight glowing portals. Each portal swirls with a different color: green, white, blue, black, red, gold, purple and gray.   Looking back over his shoulder behind him, Lorrimor finds the throne still there, but now, the Lady has her long, thin fingers around the frame of the hourglass. Slowly, her eyes still affixed, she picks it up and as she turns it over, the red sand creeps from its resting place and begins to trickle down through the narrow opening between the orbs.   Turning back now to the portals, the professors eyes see that where there had been eight doors, now there are only three: one red, one black, and one gray. Standing to the left of the red portal stands a demonic looking spider, a front pair of legs ending in two scything claws, dripping with a vile ichor. Its carapace covered torso is covered in red multifaceted eyes. To the right of the gray portal stands a nine foot tall gargoyle like fiend with a long tail, bat-like wings and a great crown of horns circling its head. The fiend extends a clawed hand, mockingly gesturing towards his portal. The black portal in the center is smooth and pitch black. . . faint sounds of screaming can be heard from within.   Turning back again, Lorrimor finds the Lady’s gaze fixed directly upon him. As the red sand runs slowly through the hourglass she raises her left hand and gestures towards the portals, accompanied by a gentle, knowing nod of her head.
