St Llewelyn
St Llewelyn is of course the most important city on Mundda. And that is because I live there, of course.
The oldest and largest human settlement on Mundda and the current seat of government, St Llewelyn is the de-facto capital city. St Llewellyn is bordered to the south and east by the vast Wetermire, to the West and Northwest by the Pillar Coast, and to the Northeast by Ashiin Forest. The land facing segments of the city are safely enclosed by a Disuasion Net which discourage the psychosensitive Lukkein from getting too close to human habitation. Much of St Llewellyn is dominated by a sloping headland of basaltic rock. It appears to be the remnant of a much larger plateau, the hard volcanic rocks remaining after the softer surrounding rock have been eroded away by millions of years of erosion.
Districts
Do you get to the Upper Terraces very often? Oh, what am I saying, of course you don't.
Upper Terraces
Rising up from the coast is a tall sloping headland. While the seaward sides are comprised of a jagged mess of hard polygonal basalt columns and pillars. A number of terraces have been cut into the relatively shallow landward slope, upon which the manors of the upper classes and government officials have been built. The Capital Offices stand at the very top of the headland and extend to the uppermost terraces. The residents of the rest of the city often consider the Upper Class residents of the Upper Terraces to be stuck-up, snooty, and elitist, a stereotype that the Upper Classes have done little to dissuade.
Ash Beach
Named for the Ashiin Forest further up the coastline, this northern section of the city sits along the gentle curve of a crescent shaped white sand beach.
Lowtown
Although some of lower St Llewelyn is built upon portions of land raised above that of the Wetermire, much of it is built upon land reclaimed from the marshes by a combination of drainage, flood dykes and barriers, and landfill. Known as Lowtown by the people who live there, this district forms the majority of the Capital both by population and by land area. Most of the larger industrial estates can be found on the edges of Lowtown, with some constructions almost butting right up against the Dissuasion Net. The most advanced Nanite Forges are located on these estates.
Llewelyn Spaceport
Although the local government does not consider the city's spaceport to be a part of the settlement itself because nobody actually lives there, it is commonly thought of as a district of St Llewelyn by many of the city's residents. This spaceport is built upon land reclaimed from the waterlogged marshes of the Wetermire and the shallowly sloping shoreline. The lack of restrictions on space to build upon combined with the proximity to the Capital combine to make the Llewelyn Spaceport the largest on Mundda.
How stable is the area? Or how strong are the engines of the spaceships? When spaceport has been mentioned I immediately jumped to images of our rockets - the bulky big ones - and how their startups could seriously mess the limited space around. I guess I just imagine it wrongly, but it has something to it. The idea that after every X starts the spaceport needs to go maitenance rings on the realism note.
