The Horned Man

This man appeared in Aleksandrovka during the battle with nezhit' who had fallen while hunting down volkhvy at a nearby encampment. Whether they made common cause is unclear, but the man entered the village toward the end of the battle, came before the gate to the St. Aleksandr convent, and yelled "where is he?" 
Ivan entered into a parlay with the man, and, to distract him, promised to speak with him outside the village. The man and Ivan crossed the bridge and approached the woods, but having accomplished his task, Ivan tried to get away. The man grabbed him and started dragging him by force, and when Ivan resisted, the man grew to giant size, and tried to carry him away, beating down his efforts to stab him. Ivan's companions followed, but couldn't find the horned man, despite his size. In desperation, Ivan doused himself in holy water, and tried to cut his throat. At that point, the giant dropped him, and went deeper into the woods.
