Aleksandrovka (Aleks*and*ROV*ka)
A small village of around 200 people, located at the confluence of two streams, Bychyi and Tarsh. The nucleus of the village is the Saint Aleksandr convent. Outlying households, which are populated by free peasants and dependents of the convent, and receive arable land in provision for various services to the convent.
The convent itself is a walled compound of log churches, dormitories, workshops, and other buildings. Men are not generally allowed on the premises. The main worldly activity of the convent is an orphanage, though some of the children remain on the premises after reaching maturity if the nuns have not found a place for them or succeeded in marrying them off.
The convent is named after St. Aleksander - a Grand Prince who was martyred at the time of the Kochmak invasion around a century ago.
