Yarozersk
Yarozersk is a dispersed settlement on the banks of Lake Saiga. It consists of 20+ households set into the woods above the lake. Each household is roughly 1/3 to 1/2 verst away from its closest neighbor.
Aside from the individual households, the village seems to lack any large structures. There is no church in the village, and it is currently unclear how close the nearest church is. Most of the inhabitants do seem to follow the True Confession. The ethnic composition of the village is unclear, but it seems to be majority Norik.
The village is owned by Gennadii Bobchinskii, erstwhile lord of Vasilisa, but the inhabitants seem to be personally free, and only pay a yearly tribute of two squirrel pelts per soul - terms which the Yokels found especially generous. The villagers themselves see this as a mutually advantageous arrangement, since onerous taxation would simply cause people to wander away somewhere else.
The recent history of the village has featured a mix of good and bad news. Someone or something (now apparently discovered to be a volot) has been trampling their crops, and the outlook for the harvest is not good. On the other hand, a boy named Filipok, who had gone missing last spring, returned several months ago, and he returned with parts of a hoard of buried treasure. The hoard was used to purchase food and other items, and the villagers are now fixing up their dilapidated houses using the earnings. Despite the poor harvest, their outlook for the future seems bright. Most of the villagers are friendly and hospitable, probably on account of their newfound prosperity.
