29th Session
General Summary
It's the night after the date night. Just after midnight Colonel Goldblade comes into the antechamber where Tasha and Ellie are keeping watch. He claims that he's waiting until the princess falls asleep so that he can go in to guard the windows. Yes, he knows it's weird, which is why he'll have Galla do it tomorrow.
Ellie and Tasha take this opportunity to grill him. He shuts down Tasha's attempts to ask him about his shared past with Eirianwen. The only things he gives up is that he's known her since his birth and that .she was "delightsome." Everything else is answered with a "I do not wish to speak of old things." Ellie has a bit more luck getting him to talk about the present. He doesn't admit to any feelings beyond extreme loyalty and concern for her well being. He asks them not to encourage a romantic relationship between him and her as he believes any interest she has in him is due to survival instincts, meant to ensure her security and comfort, theorizing that she might have attached herself to "powerful men" in the years she's been missing. Ellie thinks that's a load of crap and calls him out on some of his unhealthy and obsessive behavior and encourages him to act on any romantic feelings he may have.
The conversation is interrupted by screams from the bedchambers which wakes up the entire party who follows the Colonel into the room. It's a night terror. Stoneface picks up the whining distressed Selima, declares there's nothing anyone can do and goes back into the antechamber to pet the puppy and speak to her softly in Time Clanish. He recommends against waking her as it didn't go well the last time someone did that. Tasha stays and plays lullabies on her pan flute while Theo tries to go back to sleep.
When the screaming stops, Stoneface inquires from Ellie her opinion on whether Mattis is helping her highness. From what she sees, he has been. Goldblade remarks he'll have Mattis work with the royal tomorrow before heading into the bedchamber to guard the windows with the dog.
The next morning, Galla comes into antechamber with four other people looking for Andrew. She'd asked these four magical Old Ones(rank:4f9570b0-d608-408c-be5c-fdb1f2a73924) to help protect Eirianwen. There's @[Ronen Ariza, the popular troubadour of sound, Enzo Borobia the baby of the Old Ones and of water and the Edadis sisters Marisol and Marluna, priestesses of Time who proved they weren't changelings by naming four of the first queen's relatives or using magic. Andrew isn't happy but accepts them.
Tasha and Ronen stay with the princess while the others get breakfast. During breakfast, Mattis comes to have a session with the princess. Tasha smells a rat and asks for confirmation while she tells Ellie to get up there. Mattis doesn't name four of the first queen's relatives like Ronen asks and just insists on coming in. Ellie questions him when she gets there and calls for Theo and Caspian through the earring. There being to be some yelling as a fire is discovered in the house. Mattis still isn't let in. Ellie insists on nicking him with a silver knife when Theo gets there. He steps back and says "You had to do this the hard way."
Ronen goes inside to get the princess when Tasha charms the changeling buying time for Theo to do a "reverse trust fall" and tackle "Fakttis" causing them both to fall prone. The changeling gets one stab in, but eventually fumbles and nicks himself and passes out. They tie him up to column and call to Ronen, who took the princess down a rope ladder off the balcony, to tell the others what happened.
The Old Ones immediately know it's not Mattis when they come back from putting out the fire. The sisters watch the prisoner while the party starts looking for the real Mattis. His notes and journals are spread around, but there's no sign of the mind doctor.
The party goes with Ronen and Galla to visit the guest house Mattis's assistant are staying at. The house seems empty, but there's two bound people in cellar: Mattis, with a cloth over his face and a woman with a head injury. Ronen takes the cloth off, gives a little sniff and throws it away saying "chloroform and hemstaim." Ellie rouses the two using her healing skills. They're both confused, but the combined story is that two people came to see "Miguel," the other assistant, and Sandra, the woman got hit over the head and Mattis got the rag to face from behind when he was talking to Miguel in the living room. Ronen asks Mattis to "show" him Miguel which Mattis apparently does. His description sounds very much like a generic Time Clan man. Miguel is no where to be seen, but there are no bags in his room.
Caspian finds tracks leading from the house, one that looks like Mattis from yesterday and two from this morning. One track leads in and out of the game warden's house. His wife hasn't seen anything as she was in the garden. She proves she is not a changeling. The tracks led to to the north west corner of the house, where the fire was. It's a bit harder to track as there's a lot of footprints from people putting out the fire, but Caspian does pick it back up and follow them to behind the house and then down to cliffs by the lake.
Before going down to the lake, Theo returns to the house to tell the Colonel what's happening. Stoneface is in the library with the princess and her dog. He puts the princess in the secret room before talking to Theo. Upon hearing that there's two changelings and one went down to the lake, he tells Theo to take Enzo.
TLDR: Colonel Goldblade is werid and Ellie won't leave him be. The princess has another night terror. Galla brings more Old Ones in. Mattis turns out to be a changeling, but the party stops him before he's even in the same room as Eirianwen. The real Mattis is alive, but one of his assistents may be working with 2 changelings. The other changeling apparently went down to the lake.
