Crystal Lakes

Geography

These lakes are scattered throughout the Underdark. The Crystal Lakes are a natural phenomenon. The lakes have crystalline floors and pillars of crystal that surround them. The lakes will take up much of the cave they are located in. Many ███████ towns will be built near and in these lakes.

Localized Phenomena

While there is no wind and no sunlight in the Underdark when near a Crystal Lake visitors can see collared light slowly dancing across the cave and enjoy a soft breeze within the space. Most of the crystal structures will create a soft hum as the breeze passes over them, giving an almost orchestral sound to the lakes.

Spotter's Lake

Ecosystem

A strange form of algae will grow at the bottom of these lakes. It is known as Grethort, translated to 'Life Slime' in common. Grethort is a slow growing algae that has renowned healing and medicinal properties. Widely known on Spire as the life slime or healing gel it is renowned for saving many lives after hard fought battles. Seeing great use in it the Night Elf Kingdom has put in tight controls on its production and sale. The Crystal Lakes are the last place that any naturally occurring Grethort can be found.

Tourism

In ages past the Namar███████, and ███████████ people would travel to the lakes as both medical and religious tourists. In these past ages, the benefits of Grethort had yet to be discovered. Instead, travelers would go on pilgrimages to rest in the water or bring some back to those too ill to travel, in hopes of healing their woes. The great undergods would have altars and temples set up around the best-known lakes. These temples would tightly control the access to the healing waters. In modern times tourism has declined. With the Night Elf Kingdom controlling much of the upper layers, the Lakes are inaccessible for the ███████ and ███████████ people. Though there are well hidden lakes that still support small ███████ towns scattered around the Underdark.
