Gate of Thoth
The Gate of Thoth (3,209 - 3,215 LE) was a meritocratic empire founded by Qalvi Varai, centered around a lifelong commitment to necromancy.
The Gate served as the executive head of the House of Thoth while Qalvi Varai campaigned to conquer Leona, then turn his forces towards eight other continents.
Its philosophy was that the most powerful, most wise necromancer deserved its ultimate title as Gatekeeper, and that the current Gatekeeper's life and status were forfeit, should they fail to remain ultimate in skill. The Philosophy of the House of Thoth today upholds this approach.
Since Varai was the only Gatekeeper of the Gate of Thoth, priests within the House of Thoth allowed the Gate to dissolve following his annihilation, believing that only true masters of Qalrya deserved Varai's kingly mantle.
Furthermore, Varai's annihilation deeply unnerved the House of Thoth's hearty following, who went underground following his assassination, resurfacing again publically only 200 some years later.
