Asgaard Incident

On 12 Dec., 2151 the terran colony Asgaard was attacked by the Order of the Iron Moons.
Asgaard was in a region of stars originally targeted by ordel Kwachebl. The planet had been briefly used as a staging area for ordel forces during the Second Orion War, and many pieces of equipment were left behind after the war. After the war Fedaros was occupied by Milky Way Systems Conglomerate forces, sidetracking ordel colonization plants for the forseeable future. Even after the occupying forces left Fedaros, ordel were only granted very specific planets for colonization by the Conglomerate.
The idea of Kwachebl died to the common ordel after the war. Over the following decades the idea took root again, against the Federation's wishes. The Order of the Iron moons emerged in 2078 and acquired several retired military vessels for its operations. In 2098 the Order made violent first contact with humans in the Tranquility System, a system a few lightyears from Asgaard. The Conglomerate would keep any species from making contact again until a first contact unit could be sent in 2102. Humans were invited into the Conglomerate and the systems surrounding Tranquility were granted to them for colonization.
The Order pushed for the Federation to go against the Conglomerate's orders and colonize the tranquility systems. After decades of being ignored, the Order took matters into their own hands. They jumped 30 ships to the Yggdrasil system and jumped into atmosphere. The blasts from the jumps shattered glass on the surface for the surrounding 5 miles. The ships dropped hundreds of bombs across the surface, targeting the 60 largest metropolitan areas with non-radioactive explosives. The bombardment lasted an hour, and the ordel ships jumped away as soon as the Asgaardian Astronavy was able to reach planetary orbit to fire upon the attackers. A quarter of the population was killed in the bombardment. Another quarter of the population died in the fallout over the next year.
The first Commonwealth ships would show up a day later to aid the population.
