"Us"

The ooze is a dark, viscous substance, as black as the void, with a consistency that is both gloopy and fluid. Its surface is dotted with small patches of green, reminiscent of toxic mold or festering slime, which pulse and bubble irregularly. The entire mass shifts continuously within the jar, stretching into spindly tendrils or compressing into a dense sphere.   The most disturbing feature of the ooze is its singular, wide eye, a glowing orb that seems far too intelligent for something of its shape. The eye is a pale, sickly yellow with a pitch-black slit pupil, like a predator’s gaze. The eye moves freely within the ooze, sometimes sinking deep into the dark mass and other times pressing directly against the glass, staring out at the world beyond. It is always watching, always aware, its gaze filled with a chilling hunger.   When the eye is visible, it emits a faint greenish glow, casting eerie reflections through the glass jar. Its gaze seems to pierce through those who look into it, instilling an uneasy feeling.   The Glass Jar   The glass jar that imprisons "Us" is smooth and seamless, with not a single crack or imperfection. The glass has a faint magical shimmer that ripples across its surface like water, a sign of the powerful arcane seals that keep the demon fragment trapped inside. The jar’s lid is intricately carved with runes and binding sigils, glowing faintly with blue and silver light. No matter how hard one pulls, twists, or even attempts to smash the jar, it remains impossibly sealed, resisting all physical and magical attempts to open it.   Based on findings by The Truman Group, the magical enchantment on the jar appears to be crafted by powerful wizards and clerics, designed to contain even the most persistent of demonic entities. The seals prevent the ooze from spreading its influence beyond the jar, though they cannot stop the creature’s maddening whispers from leaking into the minds of those who get too close. Needing access to one of Rillifane Rallathil's artifacts The Trman Group made the decision to free the ooze from it's prison while visiting the Underdark.

The Truman Group encountered other oozes that spoke in the same way and also referred to themselves as "Us". When they released the ooze from the jar it also released another one of these oozes encased in the stone of the wall. A chunk of the stone emerged from the wall along with the singular wide eye and smiling agape mouth.

Even in its diminished form, the ooze is always straining against its confinement, shifting and undulating violently as if seeking a way out. When the jar is left undisturbed, the ooze might settle into a sluggish state, its eye half-lidded, watching quietly. But at the slightest movement or proximity of a living creature, it thrashes against the glass, attempting to draw attention to itself.   The creature’s presence is unnerving as it's cryptic way of speaking always seems to feel like less than the full truth. Those who linger near the jar too long might feel a compelling urge to reach out, to touch the glass, to try and free it from it's prison.
