Fae draco (Dragon fairy)
Other names: demon fairy, devil fae, dare-fae-devil
Fae draco are known as worlds explorers. Even among the fae, most of whom have the ability to move between worlds, Fae draco are particularly adapt travelers, and this characteristic became key in their culture as well.
Description:
Fae draco are similar in size to humans, although they would be considered quite short. They tend to have delicate features, with high and wide cheekbones and have rather large fiery-looking eyes and double sets of relatively sharp canine teeth.1 Their skin tone varies, but usually has a purple undertone whether it is light or dark. Their ears are similar in size to humans, but have pointed tips. They also have by Peculiaris
The name of the species in our world, Fae draco or Dragon fairy, may have been inspired by a number of their physical characteristics: the shape of their wings, their eyes or their fire breathing ability.2
Fae draco wings have a similar appearance to dragonfly wings: a double pair of large elongated translucent wings with minute veins creating a cell-like pattern. However, the similarity keeps only when the wings are fully spread, because Fae draco wings fold, and in their folded form can, in first glance, seem similar to bat

The Fae draco eyes have barely visible sclera and seem to illuminate from within. Unlike their skin and hair, their eye color does not differ much, they all have fiery eyes, with variations only in the balance between their yellow, orange, red and occasional bluish shades. The pupil is elongated in shape, and can dilate like in a cat's or lizard's eye. Because of their appearance and fiery coloration, their eyes were often described as dragon-like. Fae draco eyes are very sensitive to light and they can see very well in Earth's starlit or electric lit night. In day time, their pupils are but a hairline in the flames of their eyes. They do find sunglasses very useful, for a number of reasons.
Fae draco ability to expel fire from their mouth created another strong association of this species with fire and, in our world, with dragons. Their fire breath is not lethal on its own, it is hot, but limited in size and reach. It can cause damage and, of course, start a larger fire, but Fae draco generally consider it a useful tool for their travels as an accessible light and heat source at all times.
As most fae, Fae draco have an innate ability to move between worlds, however they are particularly adapt for inter-world traveling because their breathing system functions well in most environments, allowing them to survive nearly all conditions. They are even able to survive the Inbetween for short periods of time. This attribute most likely contributed to the Fae draco inclination for travel and exploration, which is central to their culture.
Habitat:
The Fae draco home is a well-kept secret. They are explorers and scholars, and have accumulated vast knowledge about other worlds and species over the years, all safeguarded in their homworld. Experience taught them the importance of a safe haven, both for persons and for knowledge. Their home is said to be hidden in the folds of space and time, and that no one can reach it without a special incantation. That is why the name of their home is never uttered, and questions about it are usually answered with a polite smile and a long silence. There are many theories about the nature of the Fae draco homeworld. Some suggested it to be a fire-realm, with high temperatures and a terrain seemingly similar to an erupted volcano. Others pointed out the high sensitivity of Fae draco eyes to light, and suggested a dark world, lighted only by reflections of a faraway sun over a moon or stars.
Fae draco may spend the majority of their lives traveling between worlds, but their homeworld is always home. It is a safe place for rest between adventures, for escape if needed, and to raise their young away from prying eyes and ears.

Fae used to visit our world in much larger numbers, but the raise in intolerance toward magic in medieval times caused many to leave or avoid our world, finally culminating in The Departure. This was particularly true for Fae draco, who, with their tails, fangs, fiery eyes and breath, were often deemed to be demons, and had to bear with humans attempting to capture and/or banish them. In truth, Fae draco (and fae in general) were far less worried about what humans could do to them, than by the influence such encounters could have on the magions of Earth. Our world’s magions are experts at keeping a safe distance from humans, but otherworldly visitors are less accomplished in such avoidance, and could attract attention to local magions, thus endangering them. Fae soon decided that as fascinating as our world is, it was simply not worth the risk and generally avoided coming here. However, as word spread that most humans treat magic as superstition, and are less inclined to burn someone at a stack, fae turned their eyes back to our world, and Fae draco were the first to chance a return.4 Since our world is known to them, it is no longer assigned as an exploring mission, but Fae draco do stop by to visit it occasionally.5
1 Relatively sharp to human canines (or cuspid teeth). The eight (double-pairs) canine teeth of Fae draco are not overly apparent, and humans often take a while to identify why exactly do they find the Fae draco smile somewhat alarming.
2 The exact origin and reasoning for the name are unclear, but by the 13th century it was clearly associated with this species.
3 It is unclear if these missions are assigned by a supervisor, government or institution of some kind, or are the personal choice of the explorer. These are not details the Fae draco share, since they relate to their homeworld.
4 Evidence suggest that Fae draco never fully lost contact with our world. Being experienced adventurers and explorers, they are well trained in hiding and observation, and could easily keep away from humans. Furthermore, they are known to be in contact with Fae phantom and quite possibly aided the guardians assigned to our world.
5 One such visit resulted in the only known contemporary half-fae half-human. See Griffin Pryce.
