Grym Skald

Grym Skald is an ancient giant fortress located on a the Island of Solstice in the Sea of Moving Ice.

The lowest levels of Grym Skald are cut from the ice itself, and average 10 degrees colder than the other levels of the fortress.  The lowest level  serves as both the resting place of the final giant queen, and the four trials of Auril .  Those that pass the trials are granted access to the Fane of Auril.

Upon accessing the Fane, an explorer will have access to a stable Daziarn Gate that leads to an area of constant winter and Ice.

Architecture

The upper structure is built of large heavy stone.  The exterior looks like a giant skull wearing a crown of spikes.  The spikes of the crown serves as the crenellations, each 7ft taller than the roof that they guard.

The interior ceilings are 20ft tall, and the stairs are scaled to fit those of 16-20ft in height.  The doors are tall to match and are difficult to move for human sized characters.

The lower levels are created completely of ice, with floors and ceiling to match.  A 1 ft deep layer of chilling mist clings to the ground.  The doors in the lower levels are created of sculpted ice and require a total of 15 strength points to open.

History

Grym Skald was originally a fortress of the giants that were native to Kalte , long ago.  The fortress of Grym Skald served as a center of political, and religious life, for the giants that once roamed Kalte . After they were slain by the Shianti Empire , it sat empty. The utility of the fortress is minimal for most group's, due to its isolation.
