Manifold Triortan League
The Manifold Triortan League (MTL) is the international rules-governing body for professional Triortan. The League is best known for its support of efforts to spread the knowledge of Triortan to every corner of the Manifold Sky and for its sponsorship of the various major Triortan-based events around the year. The League's biggest event is the Triortan Premier League Tournament, concluding with the finals on the 10th and 11th of Abaudun.
Public Agenda
The Manifold Triortan League has several important roles within the Triortan community:
- The League host open Triortan tournaments at the local, national, and international levels. To this end, the organization maintains a roster of active professional-level players and assigns them a ranking based on their comparative win rates to ensure that, outside of tournament season, professional players can find matches with those at a similar skill level.
- The League supports educational efforts to ensure that the knowledge of the game spreads far and wide to all peoples of the Manifold. This may include the creation of published instructional works, provision for instruction in-person or over broadcast, the televising of major events, and other activities.
- The League adjudicates rules disputes and sets standards for play at the professional level while passing down these decisions to be considered for use at the recreational level. This will be done with partiality only to the rules of the game as set forth in documented rulings and with complete impartiality with regards to factors not involved in play.
- The League maintains extensive archives on the history of the game, including notable games, notable players, major developments and innovations within the game itself, and scholarship regarding abstract strategy games that preceeded it in the High Rostran tradition.
Assets
The Manifold Triortan League is based out of the island town of Kalqa in the Rostran Archipelago Confederacy. The House of Games is the headquarters of the League, a facility in that combines administrative offices with a museum, small Esotericism ritual space for the purported game creator Vexan Zin, and public and private venues for Triortan games. A patch of private beach on Kalqa owned by the League hosts traditional Eurymaxim celebrations with fireworks provided by the organization.
As zero-sum games of strategy, Triortan matches - and, thus, the skill levels of the people who play them - are amenable to statistical analysis. The Manifold Triortan League maintains records of notable games and uses them to assign rankings to members using specialized statistical instruments that are proprietary to the League itself. This ranking system has both per-variant and overall elements to it, allowing players who are members of the League to compare themselves with one another across multiple possible situations of play. It is popular in certain circles to append one's MTL rank to the title of players, though drawing attention to one's rank can also be regarded as unsportsmanlike in certain situations; the League, for its part, has no official stance on the matter, taking accusations of unsportsmanlike conduct among professional players on a case-by-case basis.
The Manifold Triortan League holds lucrative contracts with various RadNet broadcasters and news platorms to ensure that major events in the competitive play scene get widespread coverage. In addition to sponsorship directly to the organization and its tournament purses, the League's connections provide a forum for individual players to seek out sponsors of their own. MartMart International, as one of the major distributors of Triortan sets, is one of the most prominent sponsors of both the organization and players. In terms of advertiser revenue, most MTL games get less coverage than Terraceball games or the Ironies' Grand Prix. However, major events in the Triortan Premier League Tournament are more common than major Vyozha games and, thus, earn more over time. Triortan also has broader amateur appeal than Cube Conquest, so it typically outstrips tournaments in that game, save for the major Navigator's Guild events, in terms of advertising revenue.
