System Generation

I have used Stellaris as a good jumping off point for things one might encounter whilst traversing the stars! Go check out that amazing game by Paradox Interactive!

Gravity Wells

The First component of any system is the gravity mass that holds a system together. Be it a star or a black hole, one does not have a system without such a celestial body.

Gravity Wells

Roll the Dice
1-2Class B
3-4Class A
5-6Class F
7-8Class G
9-10Class K
11-12Class M
13Pulsar
14Black Hole
15White Hole
16Neutron Star
17Rogue System
18Uncanny
19-20Binary - Roll Twice
Uncanny: an example might be a strange star event that changes its color and size or a gravity effect around a single sliver of light rather than a whole star.

Number of Masses

Within a gravity well, any number of celestial bodies may take up a permanent or temporary orbit.

Number of Masses

Roll the Dice
1-41d4
5-81d6
9-122d6
13-162d8
17-203d8

Type

There are many types of celestial bodies, some habitable, some less-so, most are useful and chalkfull of resources.

Mass Type

Roll the Dice
1-14Inhospitable
15-16Hospitable
17Artificial Structures
18-20Roll twice, the results share an orbit

Inhospitable

From asteroids to toxic worlds, there are many planets that are less than hospitable. An inhospitasble planet is a celestial body that has no natural atmosphere or ability to contain conventional life.

Inhospitable

Roll the Dice
1-2Asteroid
3-4Asteroid, Ice
5-6Asteroid, Crystalline
7-8Barren World
9-10Barren World, Cold
11-12Frozen World
13-14Gas Giant
15-16Molten World
17-18Toxic World
19-20Uncanny
Uncanny: An example might be a mass made of a strange gelation.

Hospitable

What every intrepid explorer hopes to find around any star is a new, uninhabited hospitable world with which to stake a claim. A world with life on it may provide the limitless potential to the galaxy in the form of food, drugs, genetic diversity, and, most of all, a place for people to live.

Habitable

Roll the Dice
1-2Arid
3-4Desert
5-6Savanna
7-8Alpine
9-10Arctic
11-12Tundra
13-14Continental
15-16Ocean
17-18Tropical
19-20Uncanny
Uncanny: An example might be a whole planet mass being composed of one massive tangle of roots.

Artificial

Not all masses in a gravity well are natural. Some are constructions by intelligent beings that are here to fulfill a set purpose.

Artificial

Roll the Dice
1-2Mining Habitat
3-4Trade Station
5-6Way Station
7-8Military Station
9-10Permanent Colony
11-12Research Station
13-14Solar Stations
15-16Agri-Disk
17-18Tax Dodge
19-20Uncanny
Uncanny: An example might be something stepping in and out of Hydem Space.
