Issue 6: Mutant Tanks-giving
General Summary
Typhon met with Hierophant, who was somewhat upright and responsive. He suggested they meet with Cryxus. His reasoning was that while the mutant tribes were violent, they had at least been honest and upfront while the Truefolk seemed sketchy.
Team flew to meet with the mutant tribe, with Crossbow in tow. They found the village under siege by a giant artillery tank. After a long fought battle involving many gun turrets, they managed to down the tank and end the siege.
Typhon noted that Crossbow hadn't been covering them in the fight, and flew out to find that she'd disappeared, leaving only her comms unit. There were signs of a struggle, but no signs of tracks. Crossbow had just disappeared.
Team opened parlay with Cryxus. While Cryxus was thankful the Guardians had helped turn the tide of the battle, he demanded challenged Valour to fight. Blows were exchanged, with Cryxus demonstrating powerful telekinetic and telepathic abilities, but in the end Valour was victorious.
Cryxus revealed that Santiana was actually like him, and was using mind powers to appear human. The colonists were all what were called mutants all along! She was also using her powers to control the Dakko. He told the team that he, Santiana, and their brother Vrynne were the original mutants. Santiana was the one who killed off the other colonists, releasing a virus into the cryosystem. They had been at war ever since.
The Guardians formed a plan to overthrow the Truefolk and turn off the Hyperdrive which was locking Gateway City into place on The Polygon. They gathered the Junior Union to assist in the upcoming battle.
Typhon came up with a plan to hack into the control collars the Truefolk used. Valour and Danger X took to the front gate of the enemy fortress, acting as a distraction and engaging Santiana in conversation. Typhon and Misty Moon snuck up on an enemy patrol and ambushed them. The ambush didn't go as planned and they found themselves under fire, with Misty throwing up a shield while Typhon tinkered with a captured collar. Once it was activated though, the enemy forces found themselves in disarray and were easily turned to assist in the main attack.
The enemy base errupted in chaos as half their forces were cut loose from mind control. Santiana fled to the inner sactum. Gun turrets rained down fire on the team, Valor and Danger X returned with volleys of light and explosions destroying them. Typhon arrived on the scene and tore down the main gate with her new giant laser cannon. Inside the battle was raging, but the team flew past to engage their main foe.
As the team was enroute to the hyperdimensional drive, they flew down the vast hallways of cryopods. Valour noticed that black gas tanks marked with the Vanguard -V- symbol were sporatically hooked up to the system.
At the hypercore, the Guardians faced down with Santiana and her sibling Vrynne, who was a teleporter. Crossbow was there, wearing a control collar, ready to defend her new masters. Valour and Vrynne smashed into each other while Typhon engaged Santiana. Misty and Danger engaged Crossbow, hoping to keep her busy without hurting her. The team emerged victorious. Valour attempted to question Vrynne about the cannisters attached to the crypods, but he teleported himself and Santiana away.
The team then showed Cryxus how to deactivate the hyperdrive, who was happy to be rid of the thing, and returned to the city as it was freed from its bonds and faded into the space in between dimensions.
