Redscale Rebellion
The Redscale Rebellion was a prominent Ascan slave revolt and the culmination of a midcentury conflict between the western Ascan patrician houses of Cicio, Ascus, and Capulet with the eastern Ascan patrician houses of Vergilius, Summanus, and Octavia.
Events
In the early hours of March 15th 1139 AA, the Dragonborn-majority slave population working beneath the Ascan capital of Ascanopolis were freed by unknown actors, causing widespread panic in the city and large-scale racial violence as the city and Triumvirate Guard worked to suppress the slave uprising. Soon after, private militias loyal to the western patrician houses of Cicio, Ascus, and Capulet soon laid siege to the acropolis within the city, clashing with the Triumvirate guard and resulting in further conflict. After hours of violence, the militias gained control of the acropolis, killing the triumvirate guard, the Soul of Fire, the Soul of Force, and the entire Octavian royal family and the Emperor. From the existing administration, only the Soul of Light Licina Laeneus survived. Soon after, the militias turned against the revolted slaves still fighting in the city, killing them all. Claiming the newly restored peace as a sign of his legitimacy, coup leader Aquila Cicio was soon crowned Emperor as the military largely fell in line with the new regime.Effects
The Cicio family has continued to rule Ascalon since their ascension during the rebellion, and hardline stances against potential slave uprisings were put into place by the new administration. The event was seen as a catalyst for the worsening of relations between the Ascalon Empire and the Dragonborn clans of the east in the modern era.
