The Sandstone Fortress

Once home to a Sahlakesh warlord, the Sandstone Fortress was built to withstand any siege. It was from here that Acharon The Conquerer took control of the entire Sahlabao Desert. Although the fortress was built to withstand sieges and armies, it was not built to withstand the Ancient Black Dragon that devoured Acharon and now makes its home in his formidable stronghold.

The fortress is the most formiddable stronghold in Meintalia and during it's prime not a single army came close to breaching it. From his seat here, Sebirar, The Black Dread guards his hoard, taking tax from the local populace of the desert. Twice a year, The Sahlabaoan Sultanate send a caravan of slaves, livestock and valuabes to keep Sebirar happy and avoid his wrath.

Purpose / Function

The Fortress was originally built so Acharon the Conqueror would have an impenetrable seat from which to rule over the desert and give his army a strategic central location in the desert to stay safe outside of the capitol. It is now used as a lair by Sebirar, The Black Dread, the dragon that devoured Acharon and his army, and is best avoided.

Alterations

The outer walls of the fortress have been unchanged since the dragon Sebirar, The Black Dread took up residence here. Whether the inside has changed or not is unknown as nobody has come out alive.

Architecture

The fortress is built into the face of the huge cliff that splits the Sahlabao desert in two. The fortress is built into a natural alcove about halfway up the cliff, reinforced by sandstone walls. A steep staircase leads up to the entrance, a giant wooden gate that opens in to a large courtyard overlooked by the main structure of the fortress. The entire fortress is constructed from Sandstone with great pillars lining the front walls, hence the name.

History

Construction of the fortress began in 99E4 and was finished in 114E4. Acharon ruled from here until 139E4, when Sebirar The Black Dread assaulted it, wiping out Acharon's army and killing the warlord, claiming the fortress for himself. For over 200 years Sebirar has lived here, demanding an annual tax of food and riches from Sahlakaoleh on threat of destroying the city.
