Daemons are the souls of mortal, sentient races stripped of their mortality and twisted into foul, evil creatures by Faramel. Daemons are an odd species as they all start the same and grow and mutate to become vastly different beings. Daemons are categorised into numbered ranks, with a Rank 1 Daemon being an Imp, the weakest daemons, and stronger daemons being given a higher rank. Demon Lords have the highest rank, usually recognised to be somewhere in the 40's. 50 is the highest recognised rank a Daemon can achieve. Usually, when a daemon is killed it is sent back to The Abyss where it is reborn as an Imp, as all daemons start. As they spread evil and commit deeds they rank up, and with each rank are granted a new feature of their choice. Most opt for horns, wings, larger sizes or sharper claws, but some are more creative and pick unique abilities that compliment each other. Most Daemons follow specific paths and become specific types of Daemon, such as the Succubus/Incubus or the Devil, but others pick whatever features they like and it's usually these more creative and aspirational Daemons that live long enough to reach the highest ranks and become Demon Lords. Most Daemons are never given individual names but some that reach high ranks and live for long periods of time are given names, usualy a singular word associated with their abilities or traits.
Daemons live in The Abyss beneath The Soul Forge, ruled by Faramel. They have free will and do not have to serve Faramel, however they often do so willingly as there is no other way for them to achieve higher ranks and gain power. Daemons of higher ranks tend to be loyal to Faramel, particularly the Demon Lords, honour bound to serve him in exchange for the gifts he bestows. Legend tells of a place called Imp Town, where Daemon's live free of Faramel's influence, a society of Imp's that have grown tired of evil and want to live peaceful lives.
