Pentos

Pentos is a large port city, more populous than Astapor on Slaver's Bay. Located closest of all the Free Cities to King's Landing in Westeros, Pentos is one of the westernmost of the Free Cities. The city lies on the Bay of Pentos off the narrow sea, with the Flatlands and Velvet Hills to the east. Even though Pentos has massive, high walls, it is often regarded as the most vulnerable of the Free Cities. The city has many square brick towers. Most of the roofing is done in tiles. Pentos has walled estates, such as manses belonging to Magister Horro Mopatis The Sunrise Gate allows the traveller to exit the city to the east, in the direction of the Rhoyne. The fastest way to Volantis from Pentos is by sea. A large red temple is located in the city, and the red priests are known to sing and light their night fires.

The Horro Barricades

After the Myr invasion of Pentos, sometimes known as "The Myrish Betrayal" by those inside the City of Pentos, saw the city nearly sacked. With only a peace deal being struck saving them from the embarrassment.   Clearly, there were several issues and during the years the defences of the city had been neglected. This all coming to light due to the conflict.   Due to this loss, Prince Horro Mopatis set in place a task force to determine several upgrades and improvements to the defenses of the City and the surrounding areas. This was lead by his son, Daemion Mopatis who would issue several designs.   These fortifications took the form of walls, towers and fortresses located around the city but also in key locations such as the new border to Myr and the Mountain ranges to the east. With several fortifications supporting this natural defensive area.   The outcome of this came in the form of "The Horro Barricades" named as such for the famed Prince who saw them built.   The hope is that these fortifications shall aid in the defence of the City in case of another war with Myr or perhaps some of the Eastern Free Cities.
