Iykerz Kugelen (ˈɪjkɛrz kugelɛn)
Canyons of "Iykerz Kugelen" are part of the Scorched Mountains, near the south-western border of the Empire of Islenor. Elves of Islenor call the area as "Colveri Tasduni" (The Liveless Cliffs), and the drow of Szith Draethoz as "Phish'chuth Rei" (Red Ash Fall), but the Makubash orcs that mostly populate the area call it by the name Iykerz Kugelen, "The Corpse Canyon".
Omnious names of this area come from the toxic volcanic fumes that plague parts of the area in form of gas wells, as well as the large amounts of iron on the soil that colour it blazing orange and blood red.
Geography
Iykerz Kugelen is considered to start at the south-west border of Empire of Islenor, and it continues far to the deep of Scorched Mountains. The Canyon is one of the easiest pathways to travel on foot or horse when trying to get as far to the Scorched Mountains as possible, as it doesn't require as much climbing on the treacherous cliff faces.
Lyntasa river comes down from the mountainsides, through the canyon, and flows towards Islenor, while mountains and plateaus form maze-like paths and small longitudinal valleys, dry valleys and hollows, some holding dangerous gas wells, others a bit of usable land. Mountains have a disticnt reddish colour due to a large amount of iron on the soil.
Localized Phenomena
In the Iykerz Kugelen area alone, there is a total of 3 volcanoes with varying levels of activity. Some areas have localized gas wells, which spout out dangerous, toxic fumes. Earthquakes, volcanic activity, ash rains and storms are not unusual in the area.
Fauna & Flora
Dragons, wyverns and other drakes are the most famous inhabitants of Iykerz Kugelen, living among many species of birds, goats, rodents, reptiles, bats and insects. All flora and fauna in the area are developed to live in such a harsh environment. While there are some patches of land that are particularly fruitful, most of the area is rather barren with some bush here and there.
Natural Resources
Land here is rich in minerals, specifically iron, which makes them more ambitious to come and try their luck to mine metals, precious stones and other resources.
Phish'chuth Rei (Red Ash Fall)
Colveri Tasduni (The Liveless Cliffs)
Volcanic, iron rich lands sound really interesting. Definitely would not want to live there.
