Lakecliff Ruins
"It is not advised going near those ruins, after the fight Stormhold put up in the civil war the Army of Highsummit wanted to send a message. The town suffered heavy bombardment and eventually fouled animal carcasses would follow. The eventual assault was wholesale slaughter, none of mercy shown to Stormhold was shown there. It left.......... a mark, official proclamations say it's overrun by bandits, but a scar can be felt there, it attracts things worse then bandits." - Warnings given to strangers who express interest in visiting
History
With the Wildlands pushed back, the monarchy of Highsummit began to aggressively expand further east. Lakecliff proved to be an attractive location as the river and Lake provided natural barriers for defense, easy access to fishing, and a staging area to send expeditions for resources further east. It was tough to attract settlers to the area, being on the frontiers of the kingdom wasn't exactly enticing for families when there were other options. This caused the city to lag behind in terms of growth, which caused it to receive less attention in terms of support from Highsummit. The people that did decide to settle the area proved to be hardy and developed self-sufficiency, the "road" that connected it the rest of the kingdom was little more then markers and a trodden path of those that came before. The citizens made the best of their situation, they would eventually reach out to the neighboring kingdom of Druebar and negotiate several agreements that would eventually lead to the founding of Little Post. While the citizens still considered themselves subjects of Highsummit, they felt they shouldn't be asked to contribute the same as the non frontier settlements. They would become quite adept at under-representing and hiding how much they had made to limit taxation. This cat and mouse game would go on for centuries, occasionally the tax official would get lucky but it generally wasn't considered worth the effort by those sent (It also wasn't a popular assignment location given its remoteness so the more competent officials would avoid going there, leaving lesser officials to the task).
This way of doing things changed when the Bralorian civil war started, The remote location suddenly became an attractive trait to the factions resisting Highsummit, along with a very self-sufficient population that knew how to smuggle. Hasty defenses were put in place and they begin to use the lake to quickly move supplies to other factions. After Stormhold is subdued Highsummit turned it's attention to Lakecliff, in an effort to starve Barthmont without having to perform an assault. Highsummit was merciless, with a failed policy of mercy shown to Stormhold and centuries of deceit, the city was razed. After the war there was an attempt to investigate the alleged crimes, but such attempts were unsuccessful, no honest citizen willingly went to Lakecliff.

Climate
After the city was razed, people started to notice the area around the town (both land and lake) became more erratic. winds would pick up out of nowhere and the lake would become more torrential the closer one sailed to to Lakecliff. A cloud settled over the area.
