Pearl Keep
"The founding of Pearl Keep was something of a miracle, the civil war wasn't that long ago and with the collapse of the Bronze Cliff mines had greatly reduced the flow of precious metals for trade. The reformed government was still seen as new and with doubt by other countries, one conspiracy had almost succeed in overthrowing the royal council and who knows how many more had been stamped out. With the discovery of the large deposits of Pearls the economic situation changed almost overnight, gold flooded into the country and Bralor entered into a golden age of sorts. Magical users of all varieties traveled to purchase high quality pearls for their craft, and while they didn't stay for long the knowledge they imparted helped Bralor to advance much faster then it had before." - Barreak Faven, Moments in Magical history.
Industry & Trade
Pearl harvesting is the backbone of the city's economy, having many uses: Jewelry, spell components, raw material for magical items. The city also acts as stopover for cargo that enters and exits the Torrential Sea, the mouth into that area restricts the size of the ships, and while it doesn't allow for trade on a large scale it does still prove to be more efficient in some cases then via the land routes.
Infrastructure
The City is primarily focused on it's Oyster farming, but the harbor can accommodate a certain amount of sea trade. Lagoon Port has Pearl Keep outmatched in terms of volume it can handle, but Pearl Keep is closer to the entrance of the Torrential Sea and has specialized it's docks to handle the smaller vessels that make the voyage into that area.
History
Pearl Keep was the first settlement to be founded after the Bralorian civil war, it was also the first major site to founded by Julian Bathazaar's expedition into what would later become the Eastbrook province. Julian's main motivation was research and in that process he was led down a rabbit hole, the waters in the area were exceptionally clear when that shouldn't be the case given how the currents from the Torrential Sea would carry dirty water. After several diving expeditions it was discovered there were large groups of oysters in the area, sparking the idea of oyster farming (This didn't peak Julian's interest), after harvesting several oysters they realized most would produce Pearls (This did peak Julian's interest). Word was sent back to the expeditions supporters and they sent the needed resources to set up a permanent camp, Julian's expedition proceeded to move eastward after being resupplied. The camp became very successful, and went on to become a permanent settlement.
Architecture
With the city being younger in regards to the rest of Bralor, there was already established craftsmen guilds, as it grew there was a chance for a more planned approach to the construction, Permanent structures incorporated a nautical aesthetic into them, the hope being that the settlement would incorporate the best aspects of form and function.
