Republic of Shraatz

Creation of the Republic:   Formerly the Coranian Kingdom ruled by two Families. Lines were neither patriarchal nor matriarchal, when one of the rulers passed, or decided to step down, the children who were of age were given a set of tasks to complete. The tasks varied between inheritance to inheritance but usually favored the eldest child whom the Ruler would have spent the most time grooming for the position. Eventually the advising families decided they were contributing to the ruling of the country as much as the Rulers and so they brought that to the attention of the Rulers who agreed and they decided to formalize it, leading to the creation of the Republic of Shraatz. There is speculation this was also caused by one of the two Crowns going missing and the subsequent reign being seen as cursed, a short war with the Holy Kingdom of Carvaan caused by a misunderstanding, two famines with one caused by a plague that decimated the farmer population, and the discovery of a group of Duergar and Svirfneblin that were plotting against the Coranian Kingdom and even managed to destroy several villages.   The Government of the Republic:   The main decision making body is the Council of First Houses, a group made up of the Noble houses of the Republic, a seat for the people and, a seat for the Major Houses. The people have a opportunity to vote for their representative every seven years and any one representative can serve for as many terms as they are voted in for.  The Major Houses seat is voted on by the heads of the Major House's families and must be the heir to one of the Major Houses, they are voted in every three years and may also serve as many terms as they are voted in for.  The people's and the Major House's representatives can be voted out by a unanimous vote by the rest of the council.  In order for a Major House to become a Noble House and acquire a seat they must have good standing with the Republic for a suitable period of time, they must be composed of at least two member species and, they must have skill in crafting, enough that they have created an Artifact.

Tense, War is always around the corner

Tense relations but a peace treaty has been signed and followed for nearly than 200 years. A war may spark at any time and will certainly be caused by the Holy Kingdom of Carvaan as the Republic is more defensive in nature.
