The Sunken Isle
The rift between the Elemental Plane of Water and The Sunken Isle is the most unstable which means the island is under constant siege. The residents of The Sunken Isle spend much of their life training, guarding, or fighting so when they have the rare opportunity to do something else, they go wild. Their celebrations are so legendarily loud and bright that the residents of the nearby Isles can see and hear them through the ocean waves.
Structure
The fracture between the Elemental Plane of Water and the Material Plane is the largest and the underwater community has developed a militaristic government to combat the threats they constantly face.
- Admiral: the head of the military and the government.
- Officer Ranks: Captain > Commander > Lieutenant Commander > Lieutenant > Ensign
- Petty Officer: The common citizen
- Apprentice: Children at the age of training (age 5 to 15/20)
- Recruit: Children under age 5
History
- 250 BC-0 PC: The Elemental Isles are one land, home to the Elementals and their creations.
- 0 PC: The shattering tears the land apart and the islands are formed. The Elementals leave during the Exodus.
- 10 PC: Dragons return to the Material Plane and claim dominion over its lands. Many claim swathes of the islands and make its people their subjects.
- 2779-2790 PC: The dragons leave to join the Dragon Wars.
- 2793 PC: Each Isle develops it own government and culture without the presence of dragons.
- 3227-3347 PC: Dragons return to the Isles, but are forced to live within the laws not above them.
- 3655 PC: The boundary between the elemental planes and the Isles are weakened making travel between them easier. Elementals angry at their imprisonment begin to seep through and wreak havoc upon the Isles.
- 3660 PC: The establishment of The Gairtiin, elite warriors and spell-casters who guard the planar portals to prevent elemental trespassing.
- 3692-3702 PC: Dragons begin to leave the isles. Some lesser races choose to follow.
Demography and Population
Despite Triton, Merfolk, and Quessir all being naturally long-lived, their constant fighting with the creatures of the Plane of Water has shortened their life expectancy to a couple centuries, no matter their race.
Those who cannot serve the military, either due to injury, disability, or lack of skill, serve the community as servants, farmers, and traders, allowing the fighters to focus on defending the seas and not upon where their next meal is coming from. They still considered respected and essential members of society.
The genasi are only residents who are not born into the military. They can choose to serve, and many do, but they are regarded as a holy race and serve as clerics and priests, giving their blessing to warriors before they go into battle.

Military
Given that the entire civilization is a part of their military, they are likely one of the most powerful forces in the world. Fortunately, they have no interest in conquest or the lands above water.
The Gairtiin
The most elite warriors of each society are selected by their government to guard and protect the planar portals. They are greatly honored members of society and given great respect from all the residents of The Elemental Isles.Technological Level
Arcane Magic
Learned arcana is popular amongst the quessir. The Genasi are often gifted with innate arcana due to their tie to the primal planes.Natural Magic
Most of the residents feel a deep connection to the creatures of the sea and embrace the magic surrounding them.Divine Magic
Rarely the underwater races are gifted divine powers by the Sea. Genasi are more likely to receive these blessings given their inherent connection to these divine entities.Religion
The underwater dwellers worship their home element, “The Sea”. They are the Sea's children; they respect her, they fear her, they cherish her, and they give thanks to her for protecting them and providing them with her bounty. They also practice a more primal spirit worship, believing that creatures of the sea are each an avatar of some important aspect of life (shark= aggression; dolphin= cleverness; octopus = intelligence; whale= family; sailfish= quickness; manta ray= grace, sea turtle = toughness, etc)
