Crown of Lichal
"One doesn't build a kingdom with their own two hands, they get others to do it for them." ~Lichal
This crown gained its fame and potency from the tyrant ruler Lichal. Lichal was a loving Mirran man who married a Liren king of Koldkom. He made a secret request to the court wizard to prolong his life so he may spend it with his husband. The wizard was homophobic and against the kings choices to date a male, so took this opportunity to enchant the mirrans crown to create the first Lich. Lichal only used the souls of smaller creatures to prolong his life by a bit in secret, but the loss of sanity was inevitable and his face grew glowing red warts. Lichal butcheted the wizard by pulling his intestines out through his throat for the vile curse placed upon Lichal. The crowns enchantment took over and terrified the king so he fled after trying to persuade Lichal to take off the crown. This led to the kings death and Lichal resurrect him. This resurrected partner was a mindless pawn, but was treated with the highest respect by him. Soon after he started digging up every grave yard to build a mindless work force to build the kingdom for him and his undead husband. The crown eventually was taken by an unknown cloaked individual and was said to be hidden in a tomb of old guarded by the dead. There are people who have taken the crown through out time, but someone always returns it.
The crown itself is decorated with a large pale opal gem, surrounded by what appear to be canine teeth. The gem is used to manipulate souls that are nearby and cause them to start circling the gem. This gem is small carvings engraved into it that can't be seen by the naked eye and hold enchantments used to corrupt the souls surrounding it. Through this the souls can be used to either prolong the individual's life span or be used to raise undead bodies nearby.
Side effects for wearing the crown are glowing red warts all over the body. A loss of sanity with destructive tendencies. If the crown is worn too long part of the individual's mind is rewritten to match that of Lichal. Madness is inevitable for one who passes on and escapes death.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The crown is powered by souls, the gems that are part of the design of the crown is used to change the souls, by corrupting them which gives them a sharp and jagged shape. These corrupted souls will then circle the crown until a corpse is in range to take control of.
But the crown does have a nasty effect, the wearer will start growing red glowing warts like the belly of the Chorus but a lot smaller and with many of them. It is possible to prevent them from forming by limiting the number of souls circling the crown. Besides damaging your appearance the crown also can cause the loss of whatever sanity that remains.
Rarity
Only one in existence.
This is delightfully creepy!
