Pixie

A Pixie (also referred to as an Imp, Scamp, or Sprite) is a type of mythical being or legendary creature found in the folklore of multiple cultures (including those around the Blood Tundra, Pachur Forah, Mashent Jungles and the Ancestor Forest), a form of a fairy, often described as a horrid trickster teasing their victims for pleasure. Myths and stories about pixies do not have a single origin but are rather a collection of folk beliefs from loosely linked sources.   The label of Pixie has at times applied only to specific magical creatures with human appearance, magical powers, and a penchant for trickery. At other times it has been used by the Mirran to describe any magical creature, such as Goblins and Elf.   A recurring motif of legends about pixies is the need to ward off pixies using protective charms. Common examples of such charms include church bells, wearing clothing inside out, four-leaf clover, and food. Pixies were also sometimes thought to haunt specific locations and to lead travellers astray, especially when they cross the fey barriers between worlds. Pixies are often blamed for sickness, particularly tuberculosis and birth deformities. This is easier to achieve as pixies have the natural ability to change form making them a part of the changeling family.   Some tales speak of pixies using their changeling forms to be left in the place of stolen people places. In particular, folklore describes how to prevent the fairies from stealing babies and substituting changelings, and abducting older people as well by rubbing mandrake oils on the feet. The theme of the swapped child is common in literature and reflects concern over infants thought to be afflicted with unexplained diseases, disorders, or developmental disabilities.
