Atolvance
Geography
Being further north than its Oldvalian neighbor, Atolvance is more temperate than tropical. While warm weather can be enjoyed to the south, anything north of the Rowick Wood will carry a chill, even in the summers. Several mountain ranges divide Atolvance with the Lorel and the Thaume ranges being the largest. Beyond the Amethyst Accord lands to the east are the independent regions along the coast. Beyond them are dozens of islands that run the length of Atolvance.
At the center of Atolvance is the Vassalmoor Wasteland. The wastes are said to have existed prior to settlements in the area, but it wasn't until the Atranans let loose a great evil that they truly became tainted. In protection of their lands (as the Primoridal Mist made its way towards them) they called upon the aid of a demonic beast of old. It destroyed not just cities or settlements, but poisoned the land itself, bringing shards of its extraplanar home to rest in the wastes. Now, the expanse is dangerous to pass through.
The Rowick Wood and the Tren'L Forest run throughout Atolvance, varying in environment and climate depending on what part you find yourself in. In Klestan, Atrana, and Dedror are wide rolling plains. South of Dedror are the Orc Lands, which divide it from the Shrouded Coast, an area where folktales and myths of forest beasts are abundant since the Primordial Haze passed over.
To the north is Fray's End, wide rolling hills and fields that run for miles and miles. Bold explorers who spend time among them will discover incredible remnants of conflicts past. Farther north is Auril, a frozen nation that many believe to be dormant and empty of any real settlers.
West of Fray's End, along the west coast are the Titan Lands. Those who venture there must surely be ignorant of the dangers there, as giants are said to dwell within. The Titan Lands are named for the geographical evidence that much larger monstrosities had once passed through, as seen most evidently in Titan's Path. Here, broken hills and sharp, steep valleys are carved in unusual patterns that were (in myth) created by the footsteps of gargantuan beasts.
Off the west coast, farther north, are the Shattered Lord Isles. These broken, rocky islands are nearly uninhabitable. While there are some ancient peoples who dwell within, most steer clear. The Isles are named for a myth that the islands are the rocky remains of a titan who was slain and fell into the ocean, shattering into pieces.
The eastern coast has an abundance of islands. Kaelora is the largest, and declared itself a sovereign nation in 448. South of Kaelora is Celuleia Island, a place regarded by naturalists as a sacred place. The forests are brimming with life of all kinds, and many Rangers and Druids gather to protect its lands. Between the two largest islands are several smaller islands. Most notably among them are the Vraydel Isles (which are home to the Vraydel Hold, the most secure prison in Atolvance) and Kraken's Maw (which is home to a city of pirates, among other horrors).
Atolvance isn't all bad. There are still many beautiful sights to behold, one just has to be careful how they get there.
Tourism
Atolvance is rarely visited by outsiders from beyond, as it lies outside of the Conscious Realms, the nations in which civilization is though to have first originated.
The Primordial Haze
The Primordial Haze is a strange fog that engulfs regions of Atolvance. People with knowledge of this ancient occurrence treat the haze as sentient. They consider the mist as a being with a mind of its own. Some even worship the Primordial Haze. These followers, known as the Prillmyth, believe the mist to be the ancient god Urbanis. When Urbanis was killed in the The Collapse of the Sodality, they think he was reduced to a mere fog. Now, if the Haze moves into a region, there must be a reason for it. For the last 345 years, the Haze has been located in Auril, the independent tundra-nation to the north. To enter the Haze is a fool's gamble. Many have tried and none have returned. Or rather, they have not been found in the least. Researchers from the Circle of Valion have studied the mist to some extent. Their discoveries were limited, but they managed to study several areas in which the Haze had once been. When it moved North, it left behind some traces along the more temperate coastlines of Atolvance. These areas are shrouded in a dense fog on most days, regardless of the climate. There are folktales in some of these seaside villages of strange beasts that dwell in the mist.Ruins of Silvein
Silvein was an ancient city, from which the Primordial Haze originated. Lore keepers claim that the city was destroyed by the mist, while others claim that the ruins of the city was what created the mist in the first place. The truth about Silvein is rumored to be kept by the people of Atran, but nobody can confirm Silvein's mysterious past.
