The Preserve

The Preserve is the second planet of the Azaleh System. This planet is a gaia world that appears to have been micro-terraformed to allow for small populations of xeno life forms to exist in their 'natural habitats'. The planet is fairly sparsely populated, with an estimated Ziiran population of less than ten million, the majority of which act in a similar role to zookeepers. It is unknown how many non-Ziiran life forms are on the planet, but the Ziiran Forerunners have demanded small population samples (approximately 20-50,000) from every civilisation in the galaxy. Given the overwhelming power of the fallen empire, few have rejected their request.

The environments of the xeno-wards are recreated perfectly to their homeworlds, down to flora and microbial environments. The xeno-wards live in recreations of what the Ziirans consider to be the 'natural environment' of their homeworld, including artificial structures like towns. The living standards of the xeno-wards are very high, exceeding those found in all but the largest contemporary economies. The xeno-wards are under constant surveillance by the xeno-keepers, who quickly intervene in the event of any crime or violence. Each of the habitats are physically separated from each other with large walls and force-fields, preventing any access except by the xeno-keepers.
