The Gendur Valley
The Gendur Valley is a river valley in the heart of Nieden that has acted as the locus of Niedene civilization for millenia. It has been home to various peoples such as the Ingharans, Kassei, and the Soranni peoples, all of which have shaped it in various ways.Etymology
The Gendur Valley is a recent name for the entire region, as historically it has been known as the Ingharan or Aarsari valley. The name Gendur comes from Gendu, meaning "virtuous"; Gendu can be found in various other names such as Gentumar Fortress or the Gentari people. Aarsari means "Flowing-Heart" while Ingharan refers to the Ingharans. The name Ingharan comes from "Those Favored Flowers" or "Those With Favored Virtues", referencing their belief that the gods favored their civilization. As for the regions, Taasari is the old Ingharan name for the valley and is still used to refer to the heart of their Empire; It means "Many Rivers." The full name would be Taa'bii'sari'sang('luum), meaning "(Plain of) Many Slow Flowing Rivers." The other name for the region is Aar'ua'sara, meaning "Calm-Hearted River."
Ilkin and Inghar are the easternmost parts of the valley and were some of the most profoundly affected parts by Ingharan culture. Ilkin means "of the Holy Clouds" and Inghar comes from Inghara.
The Lusiij plateau is the name of the region around the great lake Lusaci ("Tears of the Moon") and it means "Moon Springs" due to the regions connection to the moon. This is largely an Ingharan carryover, as after they died, the moon was no longer seen as holy throughout much of Nieden.
Dizun means "Crashing Earth" in reference to the unstable terrain and the Great Chasm being located there. Sarhua simply means "River Marsh" or "River Delta" in Auri and can be lengthened as Sarhua'rin.
