Toreador

Remember the legends that depict every vampire as a seducer? Congratulations, you have found one of the countless legends about the Toreador. Most of them enchant their prey with beauty, passion and sensuality. They are known as the clan of artists and considered one of the most important pillars of the Camarilla. But this should not distract that there are also black sheep among the Toreador who join the Sabbat and practice painful, almost perverse art forms.

Clan Weakness

Toreador are slaves to beauty and art, which is especially clear in the clan's weakness. Art can easily overwhelm them, and make them stand helplessly for minutes or even hours, admiring what seems beautiful to them at that moment. It requires a successful will save to break the fascination quickly. The DC for the check is up to the DM.

Structure

Toreador have no overarching organisational structure. Within the city, however, the clan is organised into guilds that look after the clan’s interests in the domain. The primogen of the clan is usually the oldest and most influential Toreador in the city, while the other members of the clan form a complex social network that drives any outsider almost insane.

Within the clan there are two major factions, Artistes and Poseurs. Most artists who practice belong to the Artistes, while critics, but also many modern artists, belong to the Poseurs. The ideas of what exactly art is differ within the clan, sometimes considerably. Especially older Toreador cannot really get anything out of modern art forms and do not consider them as “real” art.

Culture

The Ventrue may be the mind of the Camarilla, but the Toreador are the soul. They are among the greatest supporters of the traditions, especially the Elysium. In Varenburg three quarters of the cities Elysiums are Art Galleries and Museums under control of the Clan of the Rose.

Most Toreador have some kind of mortal identity and are well known under that name. Well, at least in the High Society of the mortal world. They think of themselves as the vampire clan closest to humanity, embraced by the pulse of humanity. They state, that this keeps the clan vital and modern, which is, of course, an illusion. Nevertheless, it is the Toreador who not only adapt but also influence people’s trends. And often enough not only those of the humans but also those of the other vampires in the city.

Within a domain, the Toreador usually take over the tasks of a Harpy, but there are also some Keepers of Elysium among them. No matter what title they have, or if they have one at all, if you want to know what is going on in the domain, it is best to ask a Toreador. At least, if you are not willing to pay the Nosferatu and can work with gossip.

Demography and Population

About 20% of all vampires within the City of Varenburg are Toreador. Most of them (about 40%) are younger than a century. Besides the high number of young Toreador, there are also some members of the Clan of the Rose, who can be considered to be Methusaleahs. The city itself is old and has a long history with arts and beauty, and some Toreador were among the first settlers in this region.

Territories

Large parts of the former old town of Nuremberg, the former Schwabach City Centre and the corresponding party districts are firmly in the hands of the Toreador. In addition, they have the museums and galleries of the city under their control.
