Government

While they technically follow the rules set by the Mirthaen Kingdom, they more-so secretly follow the rules of their mandated religion, Fyli.

Defences

The monasteries are built into the mountains, giving them a height advantage. The only way in or out is through a series of guarded tunnels, unless you can fly.

Industry & Trade

Inhabitants are given assigned roles to keep the conurbation afloat, as without careful planning the self sustainability of the city will fall apart. All citizens are required to be part of the Fyli religious organisation as Lord Fyayn keeps track of what areas need more workers.   Farming is the most important job there as includes the most workers. Religious servants follow closely behind, often doing the more menial tasks like cleaning, setting up for celebrations, delivering mail, etc. There’s also the potion makers who work to ensure everyone is healthy. Often times they’re also tasked with cooking everyone else is too busy. Crafters have the least amount of people working in it, but there’s still a good sizeable amount there. Aside for being assigned roles to create art and needed equipment, they’re also often tasked with trading with outsiders when the servants aren’t available. More often than not they trade already brewed potions, as well as various art pieces and equipment for things like craft materials and seeds to plant crops with.

Infrastructure

Each building is a different monastery, aside for the little houses that hold citizens or tools to get various jobs done. They have a wooden bridge that connects the two mountain peaks together.

Districts

They have five different districts, dividing groups of the monasteries into various districts with specific purposes. Zhisha Merpʌ is dedicated to farming, being able to sustain all of Kalich Ilmer. Meril is dedicated to worship of Fyayn; where the high council of Abbots reside and major holidays and celebrations are held. Zhisep is where all students live to get their education, religious or otherwise. Mazh is entirely dedicated to the process of potion making; between purifying water, storing ingredients, even hosting healers, it’s all taken care of here. Me-Zi is where most crafters live. From blacksmithing to sewing, carpentry to painting, it’s a lively community dedicated to the art of crafts.

Guilds and Factions

The Yati Fae Guild has a hidden presence within the city, working tirelessly to get citizens and slaves the power to revolt as Father Kalich rules with an iron fist, still utilising the Slave Enforcement Services even though it’s illegal to own slaves. A good 5% of the population consider themselves to either be members of the guilds, or allies to it.

History

Originally, it was just an area filled with different monasteries dedicated to both Lord Lyr and Fyayn. Many were built on the ground some time before the first ivierae family set foot on Mirthae. After Lyr’s disappearance though, a flood came through the area and destroyed many of the monasteries. The inhabitants felt the area was important to keep, so they rebuilt higher up in the mountains and merged with the other monasteries forming a large city.   This area is one of the few remaining vestiges of Lyr, especially as it was his idea to create these monasteries in the first place. Fyayn largely stays here in the mortal realm, stricken with grief from Lyr being gone. Out of respect for him, he even tries to keep his religion alive through various religious practices and regular prayer to the god.

Points of interest

With the help of dragons, they were able to terraform the mountains into unique shapes that act as a natural wall. The most popular building to visit is the monastery of Meril District, superseding the size of all other monasteries as it was a conglomeration of other monasteries. It’s the only building tall enough to view what’s over the rock walls, and the inside is large enough to house everyone within Kalich Ilmer if they needed to. Every part of this building is intricately designed, with murals all over the walls and beams with people and filigree designs carved into them.

Tourism

Meril District is the only district within Kalich Ilmer that’s open for outsiders to visit, and is often an important pilgrimage for Fyli followers to make from Symilf. Many stay within the ginormous monastery, mesmerised by the beauty of the craftsmanship of the old and sacred building.

Architecture

All of Kalich Ilmer has a very Romanesque and Gothic style of architecture. Buildings when they aren’t made with stones of the mountains are also made with wood imported from local areas. As the stone is easier to come by, wood is left often for more decorative purposes and overall used less often.

Geography

A mountain range deep within the heart of West Jyalb. They’re adjacent to a large lake and forest on one side, and next to even larger range of mountains on the other, where dragons often reside.

Climate

It can be rather chilly at times, but with their proximity to the lava that flows from the domain of the dragons it acts as a natural heater during the colder months. As such it rarely ever snows, but may sometimes frost up.
