Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Culture and cultural heritage
Their culture is rather ancient, existing before even Symilf was a kingdom. It’s rumoured that it’s old enough to exist before the arrival of ivierae, but historical researchers believe this to be impossible.
Shared customary codes and values
They follow a warrior code, being similar to a knight’s chivalry. Everyone is expected to not be afraid to face a challenge, especially when it comes to fighting. They’re expected to not back down, even in certain defeat. They’re also expected to be able to provide and host for guests, to act friendly with strangers unless given a reason to be rude towards them (like questioning the culture).
Common Etiquette rules
Rosies treat every one of their culture with assumed good intent, though it doesn’t always take much to give them a reason to throw that good will out the window. They’re rather suspicious of outsiders, but still act friendly towards them as long as outsiders are able to respect their culture. They find that unexpected visits are the most fun and friendly kind, especially as most people only arrange a visit when it’s to deliver bad news.
Common Dress code
Children are expected to wear armour all the time, except in their home (if they’re ever home). Regardless of gender, people like to wear light and flowy clothes as it gets hot in Maefyzer, especially by the desert. Whatever they wear, it’s expected that you can fight in it, although they do have a separate battle outfit different from casual clothing.
Art & Architecture
Because they have an over abundance of clay, they love making sculptures and pottery with it. Busts are most common. It’s also used to make tiles. In architecture is where the decoration really shines through, as many people will paint every inch of their walls with intricate patterns or murals. Most homes are made of wood or stone, while the wealthier families have homes made of marble or ceramics.
Birth & Baptismal Rites
From the time mothers find out they’re pregnant until they give birth, they’re expected to stay indoors and become much more gentle to encourage a healthy delivery. It’s believed that babies are very delicate and that they must be treated with care if they’re going to grow up strong. After birth, the mother and baby goes through quarantine where the mother and an assistant will help the baby become strong enough to walk for the first time. Only after they’ve taken their first steps is when they can come out of quarantine.
Coming of Age Rites
Children become adults when they’re able to fend for themselves. This means that they’d be able to survive alone in the wild, and stand off against a trained adult. Once they’ve completed the ritual, they will then choose their gender and be gifted their own shield to use in battle.
Funerary and Memorial customs
When someone dies, it’s expected that everyone who knows the person will come together and talk about the accomplishments of the individual, and how they contributed to society. Once the commemoration is over they’ll carry the body using their shield and bury them. Where they’re buried depends, but it’s often at their childhood house or near where they became of age.
Ideals
Gender Ideals
They widely recognise three genders; man woman, and agender. People choose their gender upon reaching their coming of age rites, and what they pick depends on their fighting style. Men fight with long-ranged weapons, women fight with melee weapons, and agender folk fight without any weapons but themselves and their shield.
Aside for fighting style, gender also determines your role in life. Men are expected to become knights or travel abroad, while women are expected to care for the home, but are permitted to work, and make up the majority of the labour market. Agender people largely don’t care for gender roles when it comes to work, but still many end up becoming politicians.
Courtship Ideals
Courtship is largely centred around marriage, and is often arranged by the mother as they’re expected to know what’s in the best interests of the child.
Relationship Ideals
Rosies believe in nine degrees of relationships each with their own labels:
- Tharmo is the unconditional hatred someone has for another. It’s an uncommon type of relationship, and more of a concept applied to those who disrespect Rosies culture. It’s also often used between warring political factions.
- Tharbuf is the passionate hatred someone has for another. Hatred of this type often comes about when someone or their family has been disrespected on numerous occasions.
- Ha kluthus is a playful type of hatred. It’s more-so about two people who compete against one another in an attempt to help someone better themselves.
- Acquaintances are a neutral type of relationship, where someone has neither strongly negative or positive opinions. It’s often used for people you’ve recently met, or don’t interact with often to form a deep relationship with.
- A hav is a basic form of friendship that one has with another.
- Philumo is a deep friendship that one has with another. It’s not necessarily dating territory, but it’s not unheard of for two philumos to willingly marry or live with each other.
- Mon kluthus is a playful form of love often only temporary in a relationship. It’s associated with puppy love and new relationships.
- Kluth køs is a longstanding type of relationship, not necessarily just for lovers, but also for long time friends.
- Kluthumo eros is a passionate type of love, reserved only for the most dedicated of relationships. Because marriages are arranged, it’s not guaranteed that a married couple will become kluthumo eros.
