Band of the Ruby Hammer
A mercenary band of questionable background, the Ruby Hammer fills the rolls of guards, enforcers and head breakers. Based out of the city of Tashal they take the dirty jobs others avoid dealing with untouchable malcontents the city guards can’t handle and the odd discreet job for the thieves guild. Some lords hire them to knock rivals into line and occasionally they have dealt effectively with real threats such as Orcs raids or smashing up Barbarian camps.
The Band is led by Captain Corgon Parqarn, who clearly aspires for nobility and claims family titles to nobility from both his mother’s (Rethemi) or father’s (Kaldorian) ancestry. This is not often questioned as he is a tall, strong intimidating man with a huge allegedly “enchanted” hammer, leading a small band of well-equipped killers.

History
Founded under the name of the Bloody Hammerers, around 680 by Corson “The Nanny” Parqarn a failed Kaldorian Weaponsmith, and alleged bastard son of the Lord of Chewintin, seeking to repay or maybe avoid his creditors. His men were drawn initially from the local thugs and bullies from around Tashal and nearby settlements and spent the first 5 years of employment guarding merchant Caravans to Azadmere.
In 685 the Conson’s luck changed as he saved the Clan head of a prominent Khuzdul Merchant family from certain death from a Garguan ambush. He was rewarded with gold, a share in the trading company and a Crimson Pillar, allegedly enchanted oversize war hammer which is enameled deep red. He renamed his Band the Ruby Hammer and shortly after sought work in Ezar’s war. His band was considered too disreputable for the “stuck-up lords” from the Kingdom of Kanday so was forced to fight on the side of the Kingdom Rethem overseeing a range of tasks from guarding a range of border forts and stomping down on local peasant revolts. At the end of the war the somewhat depleted Band traveled widely looking for work eventually returning to caravan guard duty mostly on the Salt Route. Corson died from a poisoned wound after a skirmish with Pagaelin tribesmen in the winter 705 and was succeeded by his son Corgon, his bastard son by a Rethem Noblewoman.
The Band has recently changed tactics, setting up a base in Tashal and is positioning itself for employment when the King of Kaldor dies hoping for a succession crisis and civil war or the resumption of a war in the west.
