Session 090 - The Kingdom of the Dwarves

General Summary

7th to 9th of Nolus (First Month of Summer) 722TR

The story so far

Acheron is traveling to the Dwarven Kingdom of Azadmere to collect a number of Magical Silver Swords for the Argent Order for their use in their battle against the forces of darkness. He will also get one made for himself.

Quazzy is also on a mission. She has pledged to the Ghost of Icken Haumager to return his Journal to his kin. They also live within the Dwarven Kingdom.

Heroes have just saved the life of Grim Erwys, mapmaker to the Crown Prince Khazar Tarazakh, and his guards from Giants. This band decides to accompany the Party to the nearby Dwarven Fortress of Zerhun.

The continuation of Session 89 - Silverway.


Location - The Silver Way, Trade Route Between Kingdom of Kaldor and the Kingdom of Azadmere.

Part 1 - Ambush the Ambushers

The heroes allow the Dwarves time to bandage their wounds and give them some healing potions. Recalling the information the Party had gathered at Naniom Bridge, they decided to send Avon and Sabretooth forward to scout for an orc ambush. They are not disappointed and find eight Red Orcs concealed on either side of a narrow, steep section of the path. The foulspawn have set up a series of Logs cunningly designed to roll down the trail crushing all in their way.

Avon moves stealthily forward and skillfully locks the logs in place under the noses of the Orcs. At the same time, Sabretooth sneaks up on the Orc assigned as a lookout. As the rest of the Party comes into view, Sabretooth surprises the sentry and pushes him down a canyon to his death.

The Orcs attempt to release their log traps but find them secured. Frustrated, they ineffectually throw spears at the Party and then charge, but they are quickly cut down.


Location - The Fortress of Zerhun in the Kingdom of Azadmere.

Part 2 - The Fortress of Zerhun

The travelers arrive at the imposing Dwarven Fortress of Zerhun. Grim, who is highly regarded by the guards, has the Heroes granted immediate access and organizes a meeting with Crown Prince Khazar Tarazakh.

The Crown Prince decides who is allowed to visit the Dwarven Kingdom. Grim's recommendation, as well as Acheron's letter of introduction from the Grandmaster of his Order, is more than sufficient for the Heroes to gain entry.

The Crown Prince assigns Sigam Asandril to the Party as their guide, advisor, and general minder while they are within the Kingdom. This young female herald appears curious and intelligent. Acheron notes that she owns a superbly crafted hand-axe, which she proudly calls Comet, a cousin's gift. Over the next few days, Sigmam warms to the Party, confessing that she initially thought babysitting them would be boring. 

Part 3 - The Ancient Rune

At Zerhun, Quazzy learns the location of the Haumaher Clan. She hopes to return the Chronicle of Icken Haumager to them. They have an isolated brewery up the side of the nearby mountain, not far from Zerhun. Signum knows the way, and the next day, the party hikes along the mountain pass for a visit.

The Party makes their way along the mountain pass when the Ghost of Icken Haumaher whispers to Quazzy, "I hope they have forgotten about that little indiscretion. It was a long time ago." When questioned, the Ghost confesses that he was exiled from his clan after some offense.

Suddenly, an ancient magic rune flares to life. As Quazzy identifies this as summoning magic, the mountain trembles, and Earth Elementals emerge from the cliff face above. Five are human-sized, and one is large. These pummel the Party but are eventually turned to dust and rubble. The magical summoning rune fades away.

Part 4 - Meet the Haumagers

Stromnik Haumager receives the Party and is somewhat confused. He doesn't know of any Icken Haumager. After a quick review of the Haumaher Family History Codex, he learns that Icken was indeed a member of his clan and his Great-Grand Uncle going nine generations back. An annotation says that Icken created a scandal, disgracing the family by having an affair with the wife of one of the Dwarven Princes. However, Icken was banished; however, his father eventually forgave him on his deathbed.

Stromnik is overwhelmed when Quazzy gives him the Chronicle of Icken Haumager. Dwarves routinely spike their drinks with Cave Fisher Blood when available; however, alternative brewing processes that use this blood and rare fungi, as detailed in this book, are expected to create much wealth for the Haumager family. The Party is rewarded with a feast and the best alcohol available.

Before the Ghost of Icken Haumager passes on to his afterlife, he tells Quazzy of a hidden bag of Gems in his old laboratory.
