Session 125 - Joining the White Hand

The story so far

The treacherous wizard Richemanus Hyrdeman, has attempted to kill Jolanta and her trusty bodyguard Blaine. She has returned to safety and has been instructed to travel to the City of Cherafir and report to the mysterious Order of the White Hand.

Part 1 - The Order of the White Hand.

Jolanta and Blaine travel to the City of Cherafir on a chartered fishing boat piloted by Nerick the fisherman. Jolanta arrives in the City with a bout of seasickness and promptly reports to the Chantry of the Guild of Arcane Lore. She immediately meets with Viran, Ceredig Yerwold a senior member of the Order of the White Hand, who is accompanied by an elderly woman, Viran Eilyn Dulye. Both listen to

Key points of the conversation

• Viran Eilyn Dulye is the twin sister of Dyalne Dulye, the most wanted person on the List of Renegade Spellcasters.
• Richemanus Hyrdeman is currently at sea traveling on a ship toward some other kingdom and beyond the White hand's reach.
• The White Hand would like to have Jolanta as an agent and is willing to train and teach her spells to function effectively in that role. However, she needs experience.
• Jolantas has no Psionic talents. This will be an impediment as she cannot transport via Godstones so they plan to do something about that.

Part 2 - Mission 1 - House of The Dancing Weapons

After a week of studying, Jolanta is given her first mission. The wealthy enchanter Milty Landon has recently died in a tavern brawl, his skull shattered on a bottle of ale. The White Hand have suspected for some time the Shenava Landon may have come into his wealth by magically fabricating coins. Jolanta is asked to investigate his house for any evidence and confiscate his spellbook before his brother arrives to claim his property. She is to try to leave as little evidence as possible for her presence.

Jolanta is given a key to the house (acquired by dubious means) and makes her way to the township of Halain just outside Cherafir's city walls. Jolanta and Blaine discretely enter, search the Bedroom, and lounge finding nothing of interest except a Sword, Mace, and Spear animate and attack. They are destroyed, causing minimal damage to the house, which Jolanta dutifully covers up.

Upstairs, Blaine steps on Rug that animates and tries to wrap around and smother him, but this is quickly hacked to pieces. Jolanta has to disintegrate it to hide the evidence of combat. The passageway to the study is guarded by an animated Sword and suit of Armor. These are again destroyed, and Jolanta turns the armor, now full of holes, into a decorative plant feature.

Part 3 - Mitly's Study

Milty Landon's study contains a log of his financial records and a locked chest, which is prized open. Inside are his spellbook, and the financial indicates that he has been making animated weapons for anonymous clients. There is no indication of any magical forgery. The damage to the chest is cunningly covered up, and Jolanta returns to the White Hand with her first mission a complete success.
