City of Cherafir
Cherafir is the Capital City and principal port of the Kingdom of Melderyn, as well as the residence and seat of the King.
The so-called “Mages’ City” is seen by most Hârnians as prone to strange happenings and inhabited by weird entities. It is also Hârn's most cosmopolitan City with inhabitants and visitors from many foreign cultures.
Cherafir has always been a center of magical and scholastic activity. Dozens of secret societies of practitioners of various arcane arts have their headquarters in the City. The oldest claim to have been founded around 1100 BT, nearly two millennia ago.
Government
City Council
The City’s 12 aldermen are appointed annually by the Lord Warden, Sir Drigal Thornil, who is appointed by the King. However, by tradition, the Pilot of Cherafir and the leaders of the Churches of Larani, Save-K'nor, and Peoni are appointed Aldermen when they take office.Military
Cherafir is defended by the forces of the City Watch and units of the Royal Guard lead by Sir Aelster Maradyne, Lord Constable of Caer Cherafir.Defences

The Alienage
Also called little Lythia. This walled foreigners’ quarter and secondary dock houses hundreds of foreigners speaking dozens of exotic languages. All foreign ships entering the Kingdom must first dock here and be inspected here for illegal or dangerous goods. The city watch controls the entry and exits, however, the merchant guild governs this district.
The thieves guild has a strong presence and controls various smuggling rackets.
Guilds of Arcane Lore
Cherafir houses several guilds and colleges of magical learning, most built on the ruins on Earthmasters buildings. The three largest guildhalls are:
Chantry of the Guild of Arcane Lore - The Ancient Hall of Magic
The Primary Chantry of the Guild of Arcane Lore is the largest and most serious institution of the magical arts on the Hârnic isles. It has an active Godstones and Mages frequently utilize this to transport to other far-flung locations.
This is also the Headquarters of the Order of the White Hand.
Savoryan Chantry
The chantry is home to the Ancient and Esoteric Order of the Mysteries of Savorya. This Guild specializes in the magic of the mind and psionics.
Peleahn Chantry
The House of the Ancient and Esoteric Order of the Powers of Peleahn specializes in fire-based or high energy magic.
Tuven Hall
Cherafir's College of Harpers.Enclave of the Golden Orb
The primary college of Heralds for the Kingdoms of Hârn, Ivinia, Emelrene, and Palithane.
Palace of the Golden Dome
The headquarters of the Melderyni government and Cherafir City Council named for its glittering dome, 50 feet in diameter, and covered with gold leaf. This building also has a vast library, with documents dating back over 1000 years. This library is open to the public.
Religion
The churches of Larani, Peoni, and Save-K'nor are rich in donations and enjoy tax-free status. The Churches of Agrik, Morgath, and Naveh are proscribed in Cherafir. There are no churches to the Ilvir however the worshipers hold service in the faithful houses.
Temple of Larani - Order of the Spear of Shattered Sorrow
The Church of Larani is popular with Melderyn’s gentlefolk and the Royal Guard. The temple has a Shield Chapter of the Order of the Lady of Paladins.
Temple of Peoni - The Irreproachable Order
Run by the male clerical Order of the Peonian Church.
Temple of Peoni - The Order of the Balm of Joy
Run by the female Peonian clerics. This temple is held in high regard by the population of Cherafir.
Temple of Halea - Order of the Silken Voice
Popular among the merchants of the city.
Temple of Save K’nor - Shea-al-Aecor
It is the seat of the Hârnic Deor Ishar (Primate) and headquarters of the Shea-al-Aecor, the senior clerical Order of the church.
Shrine to Sarajin
There is a small shrine dedicated to Sarajin on the docks in the Alienage. However, there is no priest.
Shrines to Siem
A lone priest to Siem, the god of nature, maintains two shrines outside the city walls.
History
20,000 to 15,000BT - The Earthmasters occupied the area around Cherafir.
5,000 BR - The Drûghu create a town and fishing village.
2,700 BT - Humans, from the "Henge Culture," migrate from Lythian. With the first human settlements, the xenophobic Drûghu migrate to the Harnic mainland.
1,100 BT - Jarin settlers arrive and blend into the local cultures.
278 BR - Cherafir became the capital of the Kingdom of Birade.
1 TR - Cherafir becomes the principal seat of the newly founded Kingdom of Melderyn.
64 TR - A deadly plague, rumored to be of magical origin, strikes the City. It ended with an equally mysterious fire that consumed only the infected districts.
197 TR - Construction on Castle Cherafir started.
