Session 215 - Spear of a God
General Summary
20th to 30th Agrazhar (Third Month of Summer) 724TR
The story so far
The heroes have voyaged to the Earl of Sarkum's Colony on the Island of Anfla, where they have crossed the mysterious Earth witch and repaired the magical seals keeping her entrapped.
Now they seek a part of the Spear of the God Manaclir, which was stolen by the Earth Witch's daughter, the Owl Woman. They have discovered her lair, located in a series of huts up a huge dead tree. And just been attacked by this avian creature.
This is the continuation of Session 213 - Dead Man's Hand.
Location - Tieka Island, a small island off Anfla Island.
Part 1 - The Tree of the Owl Woman
As the heroes look out of the tree-huts, they see a strange creature. A giant owl with vaguely humanoid features is hovering silently above them. The Earth Witch's second daughter, the Owl Woman.
She attacks with various spells, capturing some characters in magic life-draining shackles, and blasts them with sprays of razor-sharp feathers. Remy Counterspells her most potent magic, giving Odin many opportunities to shoot arrows into her. Frustrated with Remy's disruptive magical antics, she closes and tears into him with her dangerous talons. He collapses badly bleeding. Eventually, she is dragged towards Abaddon, who puts every effort into stunning her but fails. She is a resilient monster. He is nearly knocked out of the fight but is saved by Odin, who charges, slicing her head off with a superbly placed (critical) sword strike.
Searching the three huts, the characters find some valuables, but mostly broken salvage. Remys Detect Magic reveals a hidden and powerfully enchanted object, the meteorite steel, head of the Spear of Manaclir. To the character's complete surprise, mythical weapon size and shape match Abaddon's staff. A perfect fit.
The characters are picked up by Remy's ship, the Aces and Eights, and quickly dropped off on the Southern Coast of the Isle of Anfla. The heroes have a weapon-smith to find and a weapon to repair.
Location - Heiryl Moor, Anfla Island.
Part 2 - Epic Weapons
They quickly make their way through the hills toward Heiryl Moor to meet with their friend, the weaponsmith Cearbhall Ciernack. Their journey is not without incident; two Skaigeth or Hooked Hounds ambush them. However, these Ivashu are no threat to the party and are quickly eliminated without a scratch. Their large scythe-like bony hooks are harvested.
At Cearbhall's hut, they are warmly greeted and find the weaponsmith has found and smelted enough metal to start construction of the weapons he has been contracted to forge. These include an interlocking metal staff for Remy and a superb quality sword with magnetic properties for Odin. They should be ready sometime next spring.Cearbhall is also interested in the meteorite steel weapon head of the Spear of Manaclir and Abaddon Staff. They are parts of the same weapon. He joins the weapons together, using some meteorite steel reinforcements. Abaddon's weapon magical proprieties have improved (the weapon is now +2 with additional thunder or lightning damage).
Location - Fort Xuaka Anfla Island.
Part 3 - The Savages Attack
The heroes return to Fort Xuaka when they intend to wait for the next supply ship, likely the Aces and Eights, to the mainland. They have no intention of wintering on the island, so they stay at the Ravens Roost Inn and Mead Hall, entertaining themselves with drinking, gambling, and socializing. Innkeeper Ornof Dagen is a generous and engaging host. Unfortunately, their peace does not last long.A few days later, the heroes note dark figures are moving through the village at sunset. A hundred Adaenum barbarians are raiding the settlement. The Barbarians burst into the Inn and attack the patrons with spears and wicked-looking tridents. They fight hard, and several local farmers and tradesmen are murdered. The party and innkeeper Ornof, who wields a lethal-looking battleaxe, deal with invaders in the immediate area.
As the heroes fight their way out of the Inn, they notice that the village constable has rallied his forces counter-attacking from the fort with his more heavily armored mercenaries. Over a dozen dead bodies of townsfolk and twice as many barbarians are scattered about.
The heroes can't help but notice lights among the ruins of a previous settlement to the west. The characters know that the caverns under the ruins contain a trapped evil minor goddess, the Earth Witch. The heroes ask themselves, is this attack a distraction? Are they planning to free the nefarious Earth Witch? To be continued.

Atticus, we do not say 'Savages' or 'Barbarians' any longer: it is now unincorporated, indigenous peoples. :P
The indigenous people attack doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. Luckily, I refuse to bow to the PC mob. I wonder if I am in danger of being cancelled? ;-).
