Bow Wimbir
An experienced cartographer, Bow Wimbir is a human hailing from the great city of Waterdeep itself, where he holds a respectable position in the ranks of the Surveyors’, Map-and-Chart-Makers’ Guild. He gained this status by spending his youth traveling the Sword Coast and beyond, making a point to chart those areas of the map that others with a stronger sense of self-preservation shied away from. This daring and adventurous attitude combined with a keen eye and relentless perfectionism earned him renown and a moderate amount of wealth.
The same dedication to accuracy that won him his success soon soured his personal and professional relationships. Bow’s growing ego fueled his inner pedant, freeing a monster once shackled to the topics of mapmaking, and his solitary trips into the wilderness only exacerbated the problem. His wife of nearly a decade left him after an exchange ending with “I don’t believe ‘fat’ is the right word. Perhaps you look--meaty? No, swollen.”
Similar interactions plagued Waterdeep cartography circles for some time before the Guild’s head approached Bow with a handpicked opportunity: Mythrite. Unable to resist the siren’s call of both the untamed wilds and overinflated sums of money, Bow could hardly refuse. Oblivious to their main goal of sending him far afield, he is quick to brag about this assignment.
He purchased a modest house in lower Eronia and arrived to see an already thriving settlement. Although maps have already been made of the area, Bow intends to overshadow them with both accuracy and breadth. Due to his age, he makes few expeditions himself, and has over the last few months conscripted willing surveyors and adventurers to act as his eyes. Their lack of devotion to the craft has proved a constant source of frustration for Bow, and many of his underlings would have left long ago if not for the Guild's gold backing his operation.
Despite his prickly personality and penchant for pointing out the smallest of mistakes, Bow has his moments. Somewhat to quiet his own complaints, he’s taken to teaching those under his wing the intricacies of his trade, and is more than willing to throw around his growing influence to smooth the way for them should territorial prospectors or other interests interfere.
