Goldscar

Goldscar is a rugged mining town located on the barren and windswept Isle of Unulf. The town takes its name from the veins of precious metals and ore that scar the rocky landscape, the primary resource that sustains the local economy. Harsh, biting winds sweep across the isle, making life difficult for the residents, but the rich mineral deposits beneath the frozen earth have kept the town alive and thriving, despite the unforgiving climate.   With limited timber resources on Unulf, the residents of Goldscar have largely abandoned traditional Northlander shipbuilding in favor of mining. The town is surrounded by a network of tunnels and mines that delve deep into the earth, extracting valuable ores that are traded with the nearby isles, including Askel, to which the isle now owes allegiance due to the influence of the Ice Maiden. The miners of Goldscar are known for their resilience, braving treacherous conditions both above and below ground to extract the precious metals that sustain their community.   The town itself is modest and functional, with sturdy stone and metal structures built to withstand the cold winds that lash the island. Goldscar’s streets are often quiet, save for the sounds of hammers striking metal, the constant clatter of mining tools, and the low hum of forges that process the ore. The people are tough, hardened by the cold and the perilous nature of their work, and their interactions with outsiders are often curt but practical.   While the ore from Goldscar brings wealth, it also brings danger. Accidents in the mines are common, and strange tales have begun to circulate about deep tunnels leading to forgotten caverns, where miners claim to have seen unusual and eerie phenomena. Despite these whispers, the town continues to push deeper into the earth, driven by the promise of untold riches.   Goldscar, though remote and battered by the elements, is vital to the economy of Unulf and the Kingdom of Askel, providing the raw materials that fuel trade and industry. Its people are the backbone of the isle, enduring the biting cold and dark winters with the same determination that has allowed them to carve a living from the unforgiving land.
