Alluminos - Port of New Beginnings

Population: 12,000   Demographics: 35% Humans, 14% Elf, 23% Dwarf, 16% Orc, 12% Halfling, 1% other.   Motto: “A bridge between the old and new.”   The area was first founded by the S.S. Voyager, landing on what would come to be known as Refuge Bay. The land around them was heavily shielded by three mountains that blocked most of the rain and tempests. From here the Voyagers were able to regroup and begin searching this new land. Some, however, elected to stay behind and begin construction of a new settlement. After the Battle of Bastion, those who stayed behind laid a foundation for the Empire’s first port city in the New World.   City Makeup: The city is split into four notable parts: The Refuge Bay Port, The Hubcap, the White Bone District, and The Felloes Wall. Smaller neighborhoods include The Clay District, The Shipyard, and the Three Shields.
  • Refuge Bay Port: Where most of the merchants, bars, and shops make their stay, also where all the ships from across the colony make land. Also where many ships from the Empire set out. Usually the most populated albeit no one ever stays long unless you’re a shipwright, a blacksmith, or an entrepreneur.
  • Hubcap: Where most of the locals stay, centered with the town plaza in the center. Streets line out from the Hubcap’s center, dividing the city into 6 neighborhoods in which people live, shop, work, and toil. The further out one is from the center, the more rural the area becomes, with the outermost layers being entirely farmland.
  • White Bone District: The northernmost section of the city, built into one of the mountains that watches over the area. It has the highest quality standard of living. Usually aristocrats, politicians, wealthy merchants and tradespeople, or other important figures stay here. It is expensive to stay.
  • The Felloe’s Wall: A wall that is still under construction, meant to surround the outside of the city. It is guarded by a mix of the Mason’s Guild and the Local Guards, who ensure the wall is worked on every day. They also repel any attacks from creatures that would encroach on the walls. At night patrols are done by both masons and guards alike.
  • The Clay District: Where most of the natives stay. A small district in one of the outer neighborhoods, closer to the Felloe’s Wall. Most of the city’s AKacheta residents stay here, but it is not a segregation, so much as a way these people have stretched out in these regions. Often very welcoming to others.
  • The Shipyard: Close to the docks, where most of the ships tend to remain docked. Often a place for drunks and sailors to go at night. A few vagabonds like to stay in the inactive warehouses.
  • Three Shields: An Akachetan nickname for the three bluffs that surround the coastal region. They are what provide most of the protection during the wind storms and rain.

Demographics

Demographics: 35% Humans, 14% Elf, 23% Dwarf, 16% Orc, 12% Halfling, 1% other.

Government

Head of the Government is the elected Mayor: Humphrey Davy, an Elven man who’s well connected with the empire. Was once a member of the 20 Orders and fought in the Khalos Rebellion as a member of the People’s Guard in Aurumo.

Defences

The Felloe’s Wall protects the city from any outside creatures though there are some gaps.   The Three Kings make up a natural barrier that protects the city from weather.

Industry & Trade

Most business in this economy is trade based. Here many traders with the empire have first pick for common goods. Many middle men between the empire and the colony live here.

Infrastructure

While trade and travel are prominent throughout the city, most of the big moves occur in the city's Hupcap Neighborhood. The Hubcap is not only home to the Administrative office where the mayor lives, but it is also the center most point of the city, and often the best place to facilitate trade.   Bars:
  • The Bitter Salt: Run by a Bandi Bittersail, a half orc Feroxi native who emigrated with the Voyagers, this place is one of the more popular places to stay. A three story bar, with the second floor for people to stay as well as a stable for people's pets. Has musical guests come and play every Valsday and Feast Day. Local Alehouse Drake lives in the rafters.
  • The First Dock: An establishment that acts more like a meeting house for the city's officials. Is built into the side of a bluff so the verandas overlook the city. Not a common place to stay, unless you're meeting someone on official business.
  • The Sweet Land: A low grade bar by the edge of the dock district, run by a Feroxi Human named Cal Dovers. Would be a fine establishment but the owner is often too drunk to actively put work into the establishment. Sailors come here to liquor up between shifts.
  • The Whale's Rest: A high grade bar and inn run by an Aurumi elf named Utari Suragi. A fancy establishment that only caters to residents of the White Bone District. Does not serve beer but does serve wine.
Hotels
  • The Bitter Salt: Moderate level place to stay.
  • The Whale's Rest: Upscale place to stay.
  • The Fellow's Bed: Low to Moderate place to stay. The most common trade hub for those that aren't staying long.
  • Soft Mound Hill: An in found in the outskirts of town. Run by one of the Akacheta tribes. Not very popular.
  Trade Routes
  • City lies at the southern end of the Sweetwater Trail, the eastern end of Voyager Trail, and the northern end of Explorer's Trail.
Shipyards
  • Refuge Bay Port: Sees dozens of ships a day, the dockyard spans the city's length of the coastline and then some. Host to both the Alluminos pier and the Shipyard District.
Windmill
  • Two windmills found by the northern and southern end of the Felloe's Wall, grind all the grain and such kept for the city.

History

The area was first founded by the S.S. Voyager, landing on what would come to be known as Refuge Bay. The land around them was heavily shielded by three mountains that blocked most of the rain and tempests. From here the Voyagers were able to regroup and begin searching this new land.   Days after they regrouped, the people came to the realization that most of their food was swallowed by the sea. Knowing they needed to find food, a few voyagers elected to scout the nearby region. It was then they made contact with the native people. The Voyagers were uncertain of the native people's temperament, but a single volunteer elected to speak with them.   Communication was difficult at first, but eventually they met on a common ground. The Akacheta gave them just enough food to survive. Soon after the Ta'LeSharo attacked, trying to wipe out one of the disparate groups of Akacheta. However, having been fed and now with shelter, the Voyagers were able to help drive out the Ta'LeSharo. It was here the mutualistic alliance was born.   Many chose to travel with the Akacheta, in hopes of both growing to understand this new land and aid their people save the others of their tribe. Some, however, elected to stay behind and begin construction of a new settlement. After the Battle of Bastion, those who stayed behind laid a foundation for the Empire’s first port city in the New World.
