Essos

The continent of Essos is found to the south of the Westfork and is characterized by its diversity in flora & fauna.

Regions

Northern Reaches

In the north large plains of grass and hills are found, with many agriculture going on here. The proud city of Braavos is found at its eastern shore, dubbed the Braavosi Peninsula. Its northern coast is lined with vineyards, housing the city of Pentos.

Heartlands

The heartlands are characterized by the Arrhenian mountain reaches full of minerals, which are mined from the city of Andalos. More dense vegetation along with more rainfall is found to the south of these mountain reaches, even birthing the Mosuli Marches with the trade city of Mosul located at its coast. Apart from marshes, the rainfall replenishes lake Pelennor along which the city of Osgiliath is found.

Southern End

In the south the capital of the once great Valyrian Empire is found, Valyria located at the river delta. The lands found here are similar to the northern reaches, with large vintages residing here and fields full of horses.

The Neck

Essos' eastern border is guarded by the Loriathan mountain, along with a river marking the border of the continent. The city of Loriath is found here, known for its glassblowers.

History

Essos has been home to many kingdoms and empires, but generally is divided in a multitude of trading cities each with its own specialties. It has birthed a primitive from of the Chantry of Fire, with evangelists from Valyria arriving in the Westfork around 940 building the Monastery of Fire on an ancient elven ruin. Around the year 3E:950 the continent was ruled by the Valyrian Empire, which attempted to conquer the lands to the north at that time ruled by the Septim Empire. These conquests led to their downfall, with the cities of Essos returning to their individuality. Around 370 years later in 1326 the continent was invaded once more, this time by the Kingdom of Myrtana colonizing Braavos and Pentos. Control over Essos changed quickly, with the Braavosians retaking their city in 1390, but to no avail with the Zemerian Empire conquering the cities of Essos one-by-one in 1392-1396. While the Zemerian Empire controlled Essos for quite some time, the continent is now in all-out war with an invasion force from Khorinis conquering the cities of Braavos, Pentos, Andelos and Mosul around the year 1465. Therefore, Essos is best described as a continent rarely united often at war with invaders, with an everlasting dream of freedom residing in the continent.
