Thalamon II

BIOGRAPHY

Thalamon II was born as Matteus Lannister. Although he carried the last name Lannister he was removed by a lot of distance from the former powerhouse of the Kingdom of Myrtana. Instead his parents were very poor and Matteus was left as a child in the service of the Chantry of Fire, where it was discovered he was blessed with the gift of magic.
Matteus went through the training to become a Fire Mage and during training developed a fierce faith in Innos. He rose through the ranks quick and became bishop of Vengard at 31, after the former bishop drank himself to death after the failed Crusade of Maximus Angelos . He went to work to reform the bishopric of the capital and imported many of his monastic friends to reform the bishopric. When the Conclave was called to elect a new High Flame Matteus went to represent the capital and was elected High Flame after the Conclave exploded. He then chose the name Thalamon II in direct defiance of the High Flame of the Order of Fire.
Thalamon II seized upon the chaos in the church to start hunting elves in Myrtana. He got into conflict with Lucien Telvanni, as he propagated absolute rights for the High Flame. He also turned on Carolus Angelos when the King was evicting Paladins from Vengard, burning him alive. He then installed a puppet as viscount of Vengard and started preparing for a war with Lucien. This war failed and Lucien eventually burned and looted many of the farms around Vengard. In retaliation and out of desparation, Thalamon had Lucien assassinated.

Thalamon is a skilled fire mage, very charismatic religious leader and very shrewd. He is learned in chantry doctrine.

PERSONALITY

Thalamon is a religious zealot who believes only the absolute adherence to a strict interpretation of Innos' words can save his followers. In this interpretation the High Flame of Myrtana functions as an absolute authority on religious and mundane matters. He lives a strict, asthetic lifestyle and is filled with divine inspiration. He drives himself and other relentlessly.
