Valyrian Conquest
The military campaign called the Valyrian Conquest started when the Valyrian empire conquered all of Essos and its ruler, Emperor Variss Valyris, and his mages grew even more ambitious. They believed it was their divine prerogative to order the world along the lines of magicka. Variss started preparing and in the 1043 his ambitions materialized.
The Valyrian forces launched a simultaneous offensive on Arabia, the coast of Myrtana and the coast of Corinth. In this time the Westfork had just been united under the Septim Empire and its leader Tiber Septim scrambled all his forces to repel the southern invaders. He only just succeeded in holding off the invasion force. A second attack was mounted, but this one was also shaken off.
Variss grew visibly irritated with the Septims thwarting his plans and prepared a third invasion in secret. At the eve of his invasion he used his college of mages, who were especially proficient in illusion and mind-bending magic, to materialize a mage masked as Tiber Septim's wife in his personal chambers. He assassinated the emperor and the next morning the Valyrian invasion force landed on the beaches near Koron. With the Empire in disarray the Imperial defense proved weak and the Valyrians gained ground quick. Soon most of the southern coastline had been taken. An important boon in this campaign were the battle mages fielded by the Valyrian invasion force.
In the meantime however, Otus, son of Tiber had rallied his forces and, more importantly, his uncle Veranus had united bands of mages to counter the Valyrian battlemages. The imperials started to beat back the invaders and after several years succeeded in reconquering the peninsula. Otus had been filled with revenge against Variss for the murder of his father. He started amassing a fleet and within 6 months sailed for the Valyrian capital. This move had caught the Valyrians by surprise. Otus used his powerful Thu'um to batter down the Valyrian walls and his warriors razed most of the city. With the Valyrian center in disarray, rebellions soon broke out in the recently conquered provinces and the Valyrian kingdom fell to its own ambition.
