Unyozeo harvesting boats use electricity generated with magic to cause
unyozeo snails to freeze and let go of the rocks they're holding onto so that the snails can be scooped up easier.
power generation
Astral magic powers the electricity generation. Electricity is easily generated using
percussive instruments, and when enough builds it can be channeled to course through the metal that runs the full length of the boat and makes contact with the water.
propulsion
Some harvesting boats use electricity to generate small motors for fans that speed the boat along, but most use sails and the power of wind to move their vehicle from place to place, supplementing with rowing when necessary to make fine adjustments to directions.
historical importance
Before these boats were introduced, farming and harvesting unyozeo snails required significantly more labor. Snails are hard to remove from rocks as a rule, and crushing or breaking their shells diminishes their value and makes it harder to cook them using traditional methods. The innovative use of electricity to zap the snails to make their muscles contract reduced the amount of people and time necessary for a good harvest. Unyozeo are a staple food in the area surrounding
Lake Raro and increasing the yield means more food for everyone. It also gave people more leisure time to pursue different ways of spending their time. This included creative pursuits, and whole artistic movements flourished in the aftermath of the boat's introduction, such as the Chaoticists and the rise of the Modern Aqua-artists, who used lake water and crushed unyozeo shells in their paints.
This is so interesting! It's cool to learn about how this relates to a practice in your world (harvesting snails), zapping them with electricity seems almost mad scientist like, but also I imagine practical for the people within the world.
Thank you! :D It's easy enough with simple magic, so might as well go for it.
