History
Early Life
Born in the Spring of 271 AM, Alfred Valdwyn the Fifth was born the second child of King Alfred IV and Queen Gemma Swyft. At a young age, Prince Alfred was afflicted with a wasting illness, leaving him with a weak constitution and physicality. Due to this sickness, Alfred’s childhood studies were geared towards academics, with a primary focus on histories and arithmetic.Heir Apparent and the Saltpike Mutiny
In the year of 286 AM, King Alfred was summoned to the Concourse of Knights by the Voice of the Lady. The king was commanded by the Lady of Swanford herself to name Alfred V heir to the Kingdom of Avalon, purportedly due to a recent prophecy that was granted to the Lady’s Voice. In the Inheritance Proclamation of 286, King Alfred declared his son, Alfred the Fifth, to be the Heir Apparent of the Kingdom of Avalon, Two years following the King’s decree, a small, careerist element of the Royal Navy attempted to seize control of the city in an effort to install the dispossessed Princess Gwynneth on the throne of Avalon. The mutineers took hostages, and erected barricades, isolating the waterfront district from the rest of Ravensport. The mutiny did not last long, with insurgent forces being quickly defeated by loyalist forces led by Sir Rhys Aldon, Lord-Commander of the Knights-Protectorate.The Prince and the Prophecy
Many within the royal bloodline of the House Valdwyn have been granted with the gift of foresight, often seen as proof that House Valdwyn was chosen to rule Avalon by the Lady of Swanford. In the case of Prince Alfred V, the young scion’s gifts manifested much later in life. The Prince spent much of his adult life plagued by visions of fire and destruction, a brutal fate that would befall Avalon should he not rise to the challenge and lead his people to a new age.
