History
Early Life
Born in the Spring of 270 AM, Gwynneth Valdwyn was the firstborn child of King Alfred IV and his wife, Queen Gemma Swyft. As her father’s firstborn child, Gwynneth was Alfred’s heir, next in line to become the ruler of the Kingdom of Avalon. Gwynneth spent her early years at court, under the tutelage of the Lord-Steward at the time, Lord Richard Aldon. The princess had also shown an aptitude for magic, and was enrolled in the Ravensport Academy of Magic at Lord Aldon’s recommendation.Heir Presumptive and the Saltpike Rebellion
In the year of 286 AM, King Alfred IV traveled to the Concourse of Knights to meet with the Voice of the Lady. Following this visit, Alfred IV returned to Ravensport and issued a royal proclamation, stripping Gwynneth of her status as heir apparent, and naming her younger brother, Alfred, heir to the Kingdom of Avalon. Two years following the controversial proclamation of 286, Lord-Admiral Leanne Saltpike commanded the Royal Fleet to blockade the port of Ravensport. Royal Marines took key strategic positions, and erected barricades, cutting off the waterfront district from the rest of Ravensport. The rebels called for the immediate reinstatement of Gwynneth as the heir to the Kingdom of Avalon. The rebellion lasted four days, eventually dissolving after Lord-Admiral Saltpike was slain in combat against Sir Rhys Aldon of the Knights-Protectorate.The White Rose
In the aftermath of the Saltpike Rebellion, the princess was given a ceremonial posting in the cultural capital of Avalon: Swanford. The position held no political power, and was largely seen as a move to distance the Princess from Ravensport, where many still viewed Gwynneth as the rightful heir. In spite of what essentially amounted to exile, the Princess used her new role to shore up the country’s cultural legacy: securing various ancient Avalonian artifacts lost to time, organizing grand tournaments and overseeing the restoration of many of Avalon’s ancient castles. Her charitable contributions earned her the moniker, “The White Rose", inspired in part by the monogrammed favor she would offer to the tourney knights jousting in her honor. Following several years of exile imposed by her family, Queen Gemma Swyft fell ill, and the Princess returned to Ravensport to be closer to her sick mother.Relationships
