Archon's Tower

Written by SsethTheBard

Archon's Tower, the ultimate school for anyone who has the guts to apply. Archon may be a master wizard, but he will teach anyone regardless of what they do, as long as they're good and want to learn. It's what's made Celeste such a popular place in the last few decades... as Archon is the best teacher in the world.
— Archmage Solrad, when asked about Archon's Tower

Master Archon is an incredible teacher. He may be a wizard, but he knows his way around a blade. I've learned more from him than the 3 master fighters I studied under. He knows how to think, he gauges situations carefully, and I have never defeated him in our sparring. He is truly a man of a thousand talents, and the most intelligent man I've ever met.
— Gra'tha Farseer, when asked what being Archon's student is like

Archon's Tower, a truly impenetrable fortress. The wards and guards have prevented us from even glimpsing at the inside, but I'm sure it's filled with the knowledge we need. Just how to get in is the question...
— Sreth'alar, when asked about Archon's Tower

Purpose / Function

There are many mysteries around Archon's Tower, and even more around it's creator, Archon. However, a few things are known about the tower. For one, its primary function is so Archon has a place to store his vast reservoirs of knowledge, in an almost mythical location known as The Endless Library. How Archon stores the knowledge is unknown, but what is known is that there is more knowledge held within Archon and his tower than every library in the world combined. The second function of the tower is so Archon is close to the Great Luna Sanctum, and other wonders of the ancient Luna society. The third function, and perhaps the most well known, is that the tower acts as a school for only the best students. For those who dare to apply, they must be willing to face a harsh entrance trial, and a simple battle of wits with Archon. If he finds you worthy, then you have the honor of being taught by one of the best teachers in the world, regardless of what you do for a living.
I get asked that often, Draktra. I made this tower with my own will, constructed with nothing but magic. Even the materials you stand and gaze upon were summoned from the power of Luna and Sol. I made it as a school, and a place for me to store my research.
— Archmage Archon, when asked why he made his tower

Alterations

After Archon constructed the tower, very few physical alterations have been made to it. However; glyphs of warding, magical barriers, constructs, and other such defensive measures have been taken to protect it. At any given point, a visitor can see brooms and dust pans whizzing around to keep the place clean, and most likely several ethereal servants hovering around repairing any damage done to the tower. There are also glyphs that create ethereal guardsmen when activated, though how Archon activates the glyphs is a mystery.
I am quite proud of the magical defenses I have made to the tower. They have kept out all intruders, and more than one stink bomb from my students! No one has attempted to raid the tower, and if they did they would find themselves in a rather unfortunate situation, what kind though I will not disclose.
— Archon, when asked about the defensive measures in place at his tower

Architecture

Archon's Tower is heavily based on ancient Luna architecture, with lot's of curves leading to sharp points with the roofs, and many archways and such for the interior. The structure itself, in keeping with ancient Luna architecture, is mostly made of sandstone with darker stones or woods used for the roofs. Scholars and wizards have also noticed that the architecture of the tower is perfect for channeling large amounts of magic through it, though none are sure why Archon would design it like that.
I wanted to model my tower after ancient Luna architecture, so I stole some ideas from their most famous creation: the Luna Sanctum. I'm quite proud of it, though I do sometimes with it wasn't so drafty!
— Archon, on being asked about the architecture of his tower

History

Archmage Archon has been studying the ancient societies of Mystere for an incredibly long time, some claim a few centuries whilst others claim he found an ancient library predating the gods that allowed him to be so intelligent. Whatever the truth is, all wizards and scholars know that Archon currently is studying the ancient Luna society. To help accomplish this, roughly 50 years ago Archon moved to the small village of Celeste, and conjured his tower from seemingly thin air. Those who were around Archon at the time of him summoning it claim that even the non-magical could feel the power he summoned. The tower has stood the test of time and countless sandstorms, with many thanks to the magical wards and constructs protecting it. It currently houses 5 students as well as Archon.
I was there, I saw it with my own eyes. Archon stood in the center of town, contemplating something. He then set his gaze on the edge of town, and summoned his power! Everyone felt it, those of us magically inclined got a glimpse at what the man known as Archmage Archon was capable of, and the rest felt magic for the first time. A child was born shortly after, named Lune, and they have innate magic powers. The parents blame Archon, which if true raises more questions than ever.
— Scholar Kratys, when asked about the tower's construction

Good start. Its a bit basic though. Maybe one or two extra quotes from Archon or one of his students, would add some nice flavour. Maybe you could add more info for the towers history or the nature of ist magical defenses, some abnomalities caused by magical experiments and so on. While the article could be fleshed out some more its a good start! It reads well and a Mages Sanctum is always fun.

"the last few decades, as Archon is the best teacher in the world." I would reword this one just a tad to give it the punch I think you are wanting.   "the last few decades...Archon is the best teacher in the world."     only formatting stuff I see is maybe some spaceing in paragraphs and text blocks and maybe add some to the side bar. That depends on where your maps go though. Maybe add some spaces between section and the header beneath it to separate a bit. Hmmm idk what you mean by bad article my friend. It's a little bare bones but I see nothing bad. It's quite good, just needs some spice. What makes him solo dang good at teaching. Maybe a quote detailing him in action would add some life to this tower and flesh out just how awesome it seems. Don't judge yourself too harshly. you did good and I didn't see typos or grammar errors. :) you did great.

a really lovely article! as others said, it's a great start. i love the little bits of flavor, like the mentions of students pulling pranks, and magical dust pans. they really give the tower character and oomph! i'd work on giving archon and his students/onlookers more difference between their speech styles. right now, everybody has that sort of 'high fantasy novel' cadence to them, which works for a powerful magician, but don't be afraid to mix it up. otherwise, good job!
