Foggsen
Government
Foggsen is a small enough settlement that it doesn't have a clear leader. Most issues are decided through a town hall meeting, with different members of the community stepping up as leaders in different situations. In a pinch, the elected leader of the Watch can take control of the settlement in order to better protect it, but these occasions have been rare and short-lived.
Defences
Foggsen is surrounded by a makeshift wooden palisade, with two wooden gates facing east and south. three ramshackle watch towers a mile out from the settlement to the northeast, southeast, and west house two guards each that keep watch on the surrounding countryside.
Industry & Trade
This settlement is based around trapping and archeological pursuits. Most of the permanent residents survive through hunting, trapping, and occasionally lending their services to the historians and researchers visiting the area. These visitors are in search of secrets from the time before the Epoch of Peril, especially the Mage Era, and have several dig sites nearby. The kingdom of Archren supports the settlement through shipments of supplies because they are invested in seeking the forgotten secrets of the lost civilizations.
Guilds and Factions
The Watch - A volunteer force, made up of most men in the town, which takes turns watching, policing, and defending the settlement against the threatening environment.
The Adventurer's Guild - A small office located on the outskirts of the settlement which hires, and pays adventuring parties for their services.
The Research Center - A building where artifacts and historical documents are kept, researched, documented, and prepped for transportation back to civilization.
History
Foggsen was founded after an explorer from Archren discovered evidence of an ancient civilization nearby, likely predating the Void Invasion. Explorers and historians began flocking to the distant region in search of ancient secrets, and a few enterprising spirits followed, setting up a thriving community in the Wastes. After a slow beginning, the amount of explorers slowed to a trickle and most of the settlement was abandoned. A few people who either couldn't, or didn't want to leave remained, setting up a new home in the north, lending their services to the few explorers who continue to try their luck in Foggsen, certain that treasures lie hidden just beneath the frosty surface.
Architecture
Ramshackle, wooden buildings make up much of the architecture, with a few, more permanent, rock structures making up the core of the settlement. Regardless of upper structure, each building has a lower floor carved out of the permafrost, used for storage and shelter from storms.
Geography
Foggsen is nestled in a small vale between two mountains, next to the frozen Mangren River. It is covered in snow and ice, and often veiled by the thick fogs that plague the region.
