Elves

"They live forever mate" Xerxes reassured his friend. "It makes complete sense!"

"I suppose... But 20 late husbands!? I don't know if I can compete," Phythar sighed.

Elves as a Playable Race in Mythoterra

Ability Score Increase
Your Dexterity score increases by +2.

Age
Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the Elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.

Alignment
Elves love freedom, variety, and self-expression, so they lean strongly toward the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others’ freedom as well as their own, and they are more often good than not. The drow are an exception; their corruption by the Titans has made them vicious and dangerous. Drow are more often evil than not.

Size
Elves range from 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision
Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

(The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.

Civilization and Culture

History

Following the great terror, where the dark cloud of the void began to plague the world and its inhabitants, the Ether was opened up by some of the giants in the first resistance to counter the hellish forces. From the ether emerged forces of virtue, similar to the Titans. These were called the Guardians. They were smaller and weaker than their Titan counterparts, and came not to battle but to guide and enlighten the pure forces of the world. One such Guardian, El, made its way over the sea and onto the archipelago where men had fled the terrors of the main land. Here it resided in the islands volcano, Maori, and its holy energy preserved and enhanced the island and its men inhabitants.

These men would be transformed by the power of the Ether the same way that others were corrupted by the Void. Their physical features grew exponentially in beauty, their lifespans increased to match those of their giant kin. Their minds and values were enlightened. The traits that make Men men - curiosity, creativity, ambition, poetry, etc. were all improved and enhanced in the people of these islands. Their music surpassed any other, and their language became elegant and fair. Their way of life was simple, focused on love and nature. Vice mainly left their beings. They would take the name of Elves, based on the alias of their island Guardian deity.

During the Reign of Terror, two voyages of Elves left the island in search of adventure. One went west, and the other East. The voyage that went East, made up of many younger elves looking for adventure, hit the shores of the Pestilent Chasms, in what is now called Talos-Kahn. Here they explored and began to settle. However, they were soon discovered by the Titan Drosyphus, who enslaved and tortured them. He could sense their ethereal natures, and drew the power away from them, replacing it with his own dark influence. These Elves became known of the Drow, and were the Titans elite servants. The dark power of the void turned their glowing skin to shadow, their bright sunny hair to either black night or white moonlight, and their enhanced natures driven towards death and order as opposed to life and prosperity. They retained their long lifespans and enhanced minds, making them great commanders and generals over the other Voidian races or monstrosities. Their numbers were very few, and their infamy remained local. Many were slain during the Third Resistance, and those that weren't fled into hiding among the crevasses of the Pestilent Chasms or the valleys of the Black Hills, relenting sunlight and many turning to cannibalism, eating men and orc alike.

In the Age of Beginnings the Prince of Eliash, Audun, sailed East and discovered the Elvish Archipelago. He was awestruck by the magnificence, simplicity, and beauty of the Elves that after he relayed his discovery, he returned to the islands never to leave again. He married the head Druid of the islands, Caledonia, and they bore the first Half-Elves. A union between the two nations was established, and Eliash became suzerain to the islands. The trade port of Cambia was established on one of the smaller atolls, and a budding relationship bloomed. Many Elves returned to Mythoterra, living mainly among the people of Eliash. There was never a direct physical change between the island elves and those of the mainland, however a stark cultural change occurred over time. The Island Elves remained docile, peace keeping, and attuned to nature and tranquility, while their Mythoterran counterparts began to gain a sense of superiority, a lust for status and wealth, and a keen sense for military tactics. They did not become a malicious culture, but instead thrived greatly from the culture of men. Their beauty, elegant way of speaking, and regal demeanor naturally set them up to succeed - especially in a country so focused on wealth and beauty. The population of half-elves also grew in this time, with their race being primarily bred in the Elashian port town, or Eliash itself.

The Elves of Eliash made excellent elite soldiers and bowmen, and were of great aid in the war against Trinitus.

By 1217, there is a large disparity between the two cultures of Elves, with them seeing eachother more as distant kin than cut from the same branch. The Island Elves wish to remain secluded, seeing no value in true politics or warfare. Their only real concern is in regulating the resource consumption of the Elashians. The Elves of Mythoterra have assimilated well into men culture, and although primarily found in the Principality of Eliash, they can be spotted in almost all civilized parts of the world.
