Warlock

Powerful mages similar to wizards or sorcerers, warlocks draw their power not from themselves or the world around them but from a separate entity far more powerful than themselves. These entities are commonly referred to as a Warlock Patron and a warlock's popularity and social standing is often determined by who their patron is. The world is far more tolerant, although not particularly accepting, of a warlock with a Archfae as their patron than they are a warlock with direct ties to Hell. This is why Dark Warlocks, as they are sometimes labeled, often live as nomads or in isolation or at least keep their status as a warlock a secret.

Warlock Patrons

The most obvious benift to becoming a warlock is the attainment of a warlock patron but such patrons do not give their power away for free. Countless creatures in the world are powerful enough to play patron for a mortal warlock, and while many of these entities come from The Evergreen Realm and rarely have grander designs beyond their own amusment, Dragons and Demons are also more than willing lend their power to desprate or ambitous mortals in exchange for loyalty and service.

Divine Jealousy

Although warlocks are granted their power in almost the exact same way as Holy Knight or clerics there is one key diffrence between them. Warlock Patrons simply arn't as popular. While the demons of hell often pose an active threat to the general public, that is not true of all Warlock Patrons. Warlocks are shunned almost everywhere they go not becuase of who they sought power from, but who they did not. The gods are vain creatures after all and they do not like to be ignored or passed over for some other source of power. For this reason most divine churches actively work to turn public opinion against them as a form of punishment for those who ignored the gods and as an attempt to discourage other aspiring warlocks.
